Re: Fuel trims bank 1 +, bank 2 -

Just saw where negative is rich and positive is lean. So starting off lean and getting rich. WTF?

Re: '04 SOHC ticking on startup, idle, and under load

Come listen to mine when you're bored. It's loud with brand new chains and guides, front and rear.

Fuel trims bank 1 +, bank 2 -

I have a superficial knowledge of stft and ltft. At idle I get 0% ltft on bank 1 and -12% on bank 2. Under load I'm getting 3.91% on 1 and -3.91% on 2. To me, this looks like I have an air leak...

Re: rough start and rough idle

Might also want to check PCv valve. It should rattle when shaken in the same plane as the air flow

Re: rough start and rough idle

Did you clean your iac and maf? Could it be an 02 sensor? I believe a cold sensor causes more gas. Not sure what a failing O2 sensor does to it a/f mixture

I also had a clogged...

Re: Replacing LH valve cover and gasket

Isn't LH drivers? Either way, you just have to get all vacuum and gas crap out of the way. Six 8mm (long socket) bolts with some creative extensions. It should come off. I take the intake off if I'm...

Re: Front cat fell apart... what can be salvaged?

No codes? Passed inspection?

----------

I think I want to keep it stock since I may be selling soon. Has anyone had luck with cleaning one simply by shaking the gunk out? As stated the rear...

Re: Front cat fell apart... what can be salvaged?

You recommend buying the whole y-pipe ($232) or the universals ($50 each) and having an exhaust shop cut and weld them in?

Front cat fell apart... what can be salvaged?

So I had a bogging problem at 2500 RPM. CEL blinking misfire but no codes stored. Idled fine but not under load. No power, fuel economy slowly got awful in the last year (8-10mpg). Changed several...

Re: Fuel pressure test on sohc?

Jdu, no codes. Had a brief misfire flash but it didn't stop anything. Now won't drive enough to throw a code.

That's actually the damper and is expressly stated in the service...

Re: Fuel pressure test on sohc?

Yeah, I changed the fuel filter and have made a dozen other changes trying to fix a cutting out around 2k rpm. Screwed the fuel tester in better this afternoon (still nothing to put the vacuum on)...

Fuel pressure test on sohc?

Can anyone explain the fuel pressure test procedure for sohc when there is no regulator to plug vacuum line into. Just plugged into the Schroeder off the back of passenger rail I am only getting 50...

Re: Putting 4.0 SOHC motor back in need help

Haynes doesn't list this for soho but ey should be roughly same as ohv:
Mount insulator to frame nuts: 71 to 94 ft lbs
Mount insulator to bracket nuts: 65 to 85
Mount bracket to block: 45 to 60

What a failed chain tensioner does

Driving the 1-mile home from work and noticed lots of noise. Got it home and the front of the driver's valve cover was cracked. Pulled it and noticed the guide was destroyed. Finally got...

Re: Leaking Oil: front Crankshaft Seal - 2004 4.0 SOHC

old threat, but for posterity's sake:
I always use the center bolt to pull the harmonic balancer off. Unscrew all the way and then leverage the puller against the head of the bolt. Works every...

Re: tensioner failed? (not guide)

The changes began earlier with the six spring main (camshaft) tensioner over the old three spring. I bought my '03 truck with a cracked block from a piston and when I opened it up the main tensioner...

Re: tensioner failed? (not guide)

I'm certain that the tensioner plunger was the problem. It all happened in an instant--although I can't remember if it happened at startup or while driving (1-mile trip). The question is, how did...

Re: tensioner failed? (not guide)

I'm assuming we are talking about the same part (pictured below). While the plastic on the guide was broken to bits, its more curious that the silver plunger was nonexistent on the tensioner....

Re: tensioner failed? (not guide)

In this motor, it is arguably inevitable. Three separate plastic guides, one of which Ford recalled because they realized that most were failing. Albeit, if one were to actually change the guides...

tensioner failed? (not guide)

Has anyone ever had a timing tensioner actually fail? On the way home last night (cold but not freezing), something knocked and then a rattling noise in the engine bay. I thought I had picked up a...
