Re: How To: Dual ignition Plug mod (Dual plug 2.3/2.5L only)

Re: 4k shifting, too early?

So on my 1st to 2nd gear shift it is perfectly normal for it to shift at 4k at WOT? Honestly im just trying to get conformation from others with 2.3 autos so I can see if something is wrong.

Re: 4k shifting, too early?

Well im not looking to wind it past its red line, just get to the red line. It seems strange that its not able to get up to it.

Re: 4k shifting, too early?

Well the tach is pretty vague. I know its red as you get close to 6k. Probably even 5,500. But I just noticed I had alot more to go. My concern is that its choked up. Possibly a clogged cat or carbon...

4k shifting, too early?

The '91 2.3 auto is shifting at 4,000rpm from 1st to 2nd at WOT. Is this normal or should it have more power to turn all the way to the red line close to 6,000rpm?

Re: How To: Dual ignition Plug mod (Dual plug 2.3/2.5L only)

Still it makes no sense to have two coils when the main coil is sparking every time a piston gets to the top. Its a redundancy. Im not sure what you were meaning by the spark working against and with...

Replacing oil press. switch seems impossible

Im a pretty good at turning wrench but this task seems to have a much higher difficulty level. I did find the nearly hidden switch. Its high up on the block and near the firewall. There is so much in...

Re: Rear ABS and (Brake) light on

Do auto parts places now carry the diagnostic tool for the old OBD 1 systems. I know they have the OBD 2 readers.

Who sells hard door handles?

I need a passenger side interior door handle. I already got a driver side. But the one I purchased seemed softer and more pliable than the stock Ford handle. I like the more firm feel. Point me in...

Rear ABS and (Brake) light on

What should I start looking at first? Recently I did front new everything and bled everything. Then inspected the rear and bled both rears as well.
When I say new everything I mean new calipers,...

Re: How To: Dual ignition Plug mod (Dual plug 2.3/2.5L only)

Heres my thing, the coils that they have are really two coils in one. They only fire off off left side and right side. Not at each of the 4 points like a distributor might. So when 4 is getting spark...

Re: Cold air intake

I removed the snorkel thing and also used a Dremel with a cut off wheel and cut the side out of the bottom of the air box. Probably no more powerful but its fun to hear that little 2.3 growl.

Re: vibration between speed of 40 and 50

Get the tires looked at. Tire stuff can feel like its drive train but the harmonics can do funny things. Especially if there is water inside a tire.

Re: How To: Dual ignition Plug mod (Dual plug 2.3/2.5L only)

Still, these coils dont fire off like a distributor. It doesn't fire 1342 it fires (14) (23) (14) (23). The coil packs are just two coils. Left side, right side. So the ignition coil should be...

Re: pizza guy looking for the most mpg possible

Id just try to predict when you need to stop and try to coast in neutral as much as possible. Then just be sure to stay up on the maintenance. Its really that simple. Aero stuff really only helps for...

Re: How To: Dual ignition Plug mod (Dual plug 2.3/2.5L only)

This mod hurts my head to think about it. It makes no sense. Why does a Ranger even need a second coil? And why would anything change if the coil pack sparks 1 and 4 at the same time and 2 and 3 at...

Re: How To: Dual ignition Plug mod (Dual plug 2.3/2.5L only)

Re: School me on DIS, '91 2.3

Even though these coil packs fire left side/ right side, for some reason Ford made 2 & 3 be in a different orientation than the later 2.3s.

Mine is
43
12

Later trucks with the coils next to...
