Re: egr Solenoid
The above experience was just a start - ended up (based on codes) replacing the ECT, IAT, TPS, Crank position sensor, ignition module, and a rebuilt ecu. Cleaned the mass air sensor with the special...

High idle after lots of new electronics
93 Ranger
Thing is, I've got a new IAC and new TPS (which isn't adjustable on a 93)
within 250 miles or so, and recently cleaned the EGR and have no vacuum
to the EGR at idle.
Also have...

FINALLY solved a stubborn 224 code!
Long story short, a few months ago bought what turned out to be a badly neglected 93 2.3 5 speed. Not that many miles at under 80k, but lots of things not working right after I started digging into...

Re: Crank sensor alignment tool ?
I'm happy to report that Wells does include the alignment tool with their sensor. I got mine at Rock Auto, and have found that Auto Zone sells that same one (altho at a higher price).
Even got it...

Re: Crank sensor alignment tool ?
Yes, I'd read that other places.
I've also read some folks have done that and, probly not doing it "right", ended up destroying a few parts.
With my luck, guess what would be the more likely to...

Crank sensor alignment tool ?
Rock Auto can't tell me if the little plastic alignment tool comes with the Wells crank position sensor they sell, and there's no link I can see on the Wells site to find out.
AutoZone sells the...

Still fighting no code and steady ck engine lite
Been working on this 93 every weekend since I bought it - one thng after another, sadly neglected.
Shortly after I got it, I noted an irregular but frequent miss under load in 5th esp (I don't...

Have read quite a few threads on 2.3's not running warm enuf, so thought I'd post my experience.
After installing a new 192 T-stat, removing the fan (mostly highway driving, cool enuf for short...

Shouldn't EGR vac solenoid seal against vacuum?
Been chasing a vacuum leak, vacuum is steady but 2+ pounds low in most situations.
Checking anything and everything that has vacuum to/thru it.
Found one - the plastic fitting going into the...

Re: OEM tach has to be from 4 cyl?
I added a pic of the Explorer tach showing the additional electronics
on the back of the board. Very little of that on the Ranger V6 tach.

Re: OEM tach has to be from 4 cyl?
Took both tachs out of the clusters -
The 94 Explorer tach and the other out of a V6 Ranger, altho
not sure what year. I do remember it was the same Gen is all.
At the time I wasn't concerned...

Re: OEM tach has to be from 4 cyl?
Thanks!
I didn't see a yellow knob when I looked at it, but with me that doesn't mean much! :o
I was going to remove the tach anyway to see if that would have any effect on my constant on check...

Re: 1992 Ranger STX 4-cyl, 5-speed
Yup, it's 24 mm. I found a 1/2" drive 24mm socket at Harbor Freight very reasonable, otherwise a big Sears store that has a complete tool selection is a good place, too, if you can find any Sears...

OEM tach has to be from 4 cyl?
93 2.3 5 speed. I read somewhere recently that all Ranger tachs were the same, it was an extra ground wire that was used for a V6 application that was the only difference. I checked, and being an...

Were they able to determine that by a fault code, or ?
I've run the codes on mine and there are no fault codes.

Way to test for weak coil?
93 8 plug 2.3 -
I suspect one or both coils may be weak and having a hard time
firing adequate spark under sustained load.
Runs fine until I get up into 5th gear, esp pulling up a grade.

Wow! Yes, that's an expensive T-stat!
I buy a lot of parts from Rock Auto, they're most of the time significantly less expensive than the regular auto parts.
I looked on there and even there...

After removing the upper radiator hose, I took the fan & shroud off, then took the screw out of the timing belt cover - just the top screw - so I could tilt it to the right a little.
Then I pulled...
