yeh, sounds like your hydraulic clutch system.
check the fluid level, its gonna be on the firewall near the brake master cylinder.
if you have a bad master or slave, the clutch master cylinder...

yeh the door sensor on my exloder is in the latch too, took me a while to find it.
not sure how to repair other than start taking it apart.
