Re: My best mpg so far
Good points Richard. Having a highway rated tire is more forgiving than the A/Ts you use in the winter. I had the A/Ts year-round and I'm sure it hurt my MPGs. And changing the airflow on the...

Re: My best mpg so far
Hi Arlo,
The Ranger is the most fuel efficient compact truck year after year. Tacoma's are close, but Rangers have paved the way for decades.
I enjoyed squeezing the MPGs out of the Ranger. I...

Re: My best mpg so far
Hello Calvin - welcome to the discussion. I keep a running log on all of my vehicles. As you note, a nice way to spot trends and make adjustments as needed. And a good way to note when an...

Re: My best mpg so far
With the subsidies gone and the Ethanol Manufacturing base limited on how much they can produce, pricing will be competitive, but not extravagant. I suppose with more time and consumption, the price...

Re: My best mpg so far
Country Boy - to reach your goal, you only need about a 15% pick up on your MPGs. This should be achievable with some mindful driving, even with your bigger wheels. Give it a shot for a week to see...

Re: Finally painted!!!
Well, depends on my co-worker. I bought the gear to repaint the front bumper after all the pitting from the sand/rocks that chipped the finishover 12 years . I reluctantly sold my truck to make...

Re: My best mpg so far
It is a fun ride for sure. The 4 cylinder has plenty of power for the vehicle, but also great on gas around town. Even if you can't keep your foot out of it, I've done no worse than 27 mpgs.
It...

Re: My best mpg so far
I found that my first quarter was the odd quarter. Including the top fill being over the F mark, I'd still get around 100 miles by 3/4 and 100 miles more for each quarter after. So it rang pretty...

Re: My best mpg so far
That's the right idea. I was toying with getting one, but I used the rack quite frequently so I never picked one up. Plus the tonneaus seem to finish off a truck nicely IMO.

Re: My best mpg so far
It does look like your commute is at the root of your issue. If we were to assume your 2000 is reasonably the same as mine (we had the same basic configuration), I would think that your commute has...

Re: My best mpg so far
Hmmmm...I would have thought you would have done better, but your city driving may have lots of starts and stops. With the tonneau cover and manual transmission, I think you are capable of reaching...

Re: My best mpg so far
Hi Eric,
Yeah, the big tires and aggresive thread will work against you. However, the tonneau cover is helping you take a bit of the bite out of the MPG losses due to the tires. Keep in mind...

Yeah, the short trips with the extra load can do a number...on your numbers. But, that's the tradeoff for doing the occassional hauling...

Joey - I didn't even know that they made E85 Rangers back then. Pretty cool that you hardly notice the difference as from the reading I've done, drivers of even the more modern vehicles that have...

Re: My best mpg so far
The Scangauge is fairly expensive and the Ultragauge more competitively priced. I went with the Ultragauge and glad I did. With the mail in rebate, you are about $125 ahead. And for me, the...

Re: My best mpg so far
Terrain, temperature, traffic are big factors in stretching a gallon of fuel. I tend to go into work early and leave late, off peak of when traffic is heavier. I also don't want folks to get too...

Re: My best mpg so far
I have a 17 mile commute to work, so on the way in, I was getting around 23 mpgs. I live in Madison and work in Wallingford, so most of the ride in is a climb with a few flatter spots and some...

Joey,
Nice numbers from a 3.0! Not normally known for their economy but more for their longevity. My brother has 3.0 and achieved 24 mpgs on highway drives so they can turn in respectable...

Re: Is the 2.3l 4-cylinder engine powerful enough?
Daniel - here in the Northeast, the Ranger is very popular amongst landscaping/lawn service businessmen. I'd say that the market for used Rangers is pretty high given how many older Rangers are in...

Re: Ultra-Gauge Support/Ordering Thread
Wow...sorry to hear that gents. I love the feedback I get from my Ultragauge. My favorite set up is having the MPG info in the 1, 3, and 5 positions for instant MPGs, MPG srt, and Avg MPGs.

Re: Is the 2.3l 4-cylinder engine powerful enough?
Isaax,
It depends on what your aim is. For me, my Ranger had enough pick up under most circumstances. Under general acceleration, the truck behaved decently. However, if I was trying to get...

Hello Chris - Welcome to FRF!!
The 4 cylinder Rangers give best in class fuel economy. It doesn't really matter which year as the Ranger pretty much led the way for all of them. You won't win...
