Thanks for your help! I'll try that this weekend. Concerning the gunk on the starter relay. Could that be bridging the connection and bypassing the starter relay solenoid?

If I do use sheet metal is it fine to use aluminum sheet metal or something else like stainless steel if there's such a thing. Also if I use sheet metal what else do I need? Bondo?

My rust spot hole is in the back left bottom corner, under the tail light. Its not a big hole and I probably made it worse because it was originally just a rust spot with no hole.

No I'm not the original owner of this truck and I don't know if the hubs are original. There might be a possibility they could be replaced within its 16 year life span.
