Rap side of carb with a screwdriver handle to loosen a stuck float . It may have a stuck needle valve . That will need taking the top off the carb .

I get my kicks fixing things that are better off being melted down. I'm in the process of hammering out a 5' repair piece that will eventually become the lower flange of the Rat's left frame...

I would explain to the seller that if the chain jumps the engine is toast. Tell him you'll buy the truck if he fixes it OR, deduct a thousand from his price.. The OHC engine drives a cam ...

speedo only goes to 99999, then it returns to 00000. No way of knowing true miles. Start off closer to 1K

Maybe bedding in the shoes would help. Get the truck up to 40 mph and brake down to 10mph. Do this several times, then let the brakes cool for several minutes so the cool off.

No problem R+R'ing entire shaft. Had it out to do the clutch.. Today, I noticed the rear cross has some play. Can somebody please point me toward a how to TIA.:D

There's starters and there's starters. There are starters that have 9 teeth on the drive gear. Others have 10. The standard trans starters are different than the A trans starters too.

Other than cool factor why is your son attracted to a lifted Ranger? Lifts and big tires put a strain on the truck, mess up the road handling and lower MPG . Miles aren't so much a factor....

6 months after I bought the Rat, I repaired a bad spot in the frame with a piece I cut out of a a 275 gal heating oil tank. It was about 30" long of the web and bottom flange around the LF...

Heh heh the Rat doesnt defrost as good on the left. Right side is clear left side needed the windows lowered in a driving rain to keep windows clear. :D

-6 F . Battery wouldn't crank the truck over. It is old and tired. I took the batt inside and charged it overnight. Started with no trouble the next morning at 10 F

I'd be wary of the transmission. thats a lotta miles for the automagic. I'm not too crazy about the 5spd that grenaded at 131K due to a broken shift fork either. I hope YMMV :D

Buzz Killington here. When I bought the Rat it stopped fine. To repair a bad spot in the frame I unclipped the rear brake line. It crumbled. I went to replace the line and replaced every inch...

It can be made into a reliable DD by replacing the basic stuff. Fluids and filters, dried out plug wires plugs rotor and cap ( if so equipped) O2 sensors. I call it base lining. Other stuff ...

Big tires, lifts and higher gears reduce MPG . So does winter fuel blends and needing a tune up. Driving patterns too.

looks very nice. A simple no frill truck perfect for short hops. Take a dremel or a sharp cold chisel to the nuts and gently take that connector off. Find the hole and report back.
