Re: Cant remove drum brake cover

You probably have something wedged between the drum and shoe. I had the same thing happen to my 74 Chevelle, the only way to get it off is to beat it off there. Get something heavier than a 2lb...

Re: Max lift " on a camshaft in 2.5

I say build a donor motor with the good stuff over time, but build your motor NA in the mean time i.e. cam, p&p, head milled down, bored 0.0040", exhaust, cai, 24lb injector, tune. Should be fun and...

Re: pizza guy looking for the most mpg possible

Agreed. You'll never get above 18-20mpg with 31's. You can get a set of wheels with passenger car tires for the summer time, and keep the 31's for the winter. That's about the only way you can keep...

Re: pizza guy looking for the most mpg possible

^^^DEFINITELY DO THE SEAFOAM AND CLEAN THE IAC & MAF^^^^

Swap out the fuel filter, remove the intake silencer, put in a K&N air filter, higher flowing muffler...like a Cherrybomb turbo since it...

Re: DFW Mini-Meet!

Woohoo! Can't wait, it's been too long. Plus I get my engine back next week so hopefully I can take the Ranger.

Re: Max lift " on a camshaft in 2.5

Yes it does. I've been a member there too for quite a while. I know it $1000 more for the forged parts, but with the amount of time your truck will be down just for the turbo swap It'll only add...

Re: Max lift " on a camshaft in 2.5

Good on yah! I love turbo's myself too. My friend/neighbor has a CRX with a B16 swap making over +450hp to the tires with just 9psi, so it's virtually useless in the gears 1-3 but can't be touched...

Re: Max lift " on a camshaft in 2.5

LOL. Keith Black is an after market piston company. One of the best out there to be honest.

----------

There's the difference. He plans on upgrading the cam and that WILL change his power band...

Re: Max lift " on a camshaft in 2.5

That's not quite true. With these planned upgrades he'll have to get a custom computer tune, and with an upgraded cam on top of that the affective RPM range raises. In this case it will be raised...

Re: Max lift " on a camshaft in 2.5

Lol. He means get .0050" milled off of the head, and have the cylinders bored .0040" bigger. That means the motor will squish the fuel and air even more with the head being milled down making more...

Re: Max lift " on a camshaft in 2.5

Don't forget to get MSD Coils for those upgraded wires, as far as your intake goes there's actually some good power to be had if you get your stock one port matched (mine upper and lower intake was...

Re: Max lift " on a camshaft in 2.5

The spectre DIY kit is just chrome plated plastic lol. Virtually zero heat soak with it. The 93-97 Ranger headers barely flow better than our stock exhaust manifolds do, not even close to worth your...

Re: Piston failure

So while digging through my hoarders pile of collected scrap motors and used engine parts I happen to find 3 2.5L pistons + rods in great shape. SCORE!!!

Re: DFW Mini-Meet!

Well I've got all of my engine parts at the machine shop right now, so hopefully I can have everything done and back together in time.

If not I might have to crash the party with my Cheby LOL.

Re: Max lift " on a camshaft in 2.5

Yeah, but the valvetrain kit still works on NA cams just the same. If your looking for NA cam go to Racer walsh for either a "+1" (pretty much a Stage 0.5 cam) or a Stage 1. They work great for the...

Re: Max lift " on a camshaft in 2.5

450 lift IS the max lift for the stock valve train. BUT Bo-port makes a valvetrain kit that allows you to put up to a 550 lift cam in the stock head WITHOUT any machining.

Here....

Nope not fun at all. Look in piston failure thread in the 4 cylinder section to see what happened for yourself.

Re: Turbo swap. What all is needed?

Well I sold another one of my projects so I'm going nuts on this motor now. Got $4700 just for the motor.

Actually I just had the crank checked out buy the machine shop today LOL. It's in perfect condition, they didn't even feel need for work to boost lol.

I know how you feel. My job has me traveling all over the country, as far north as Minnesota. Guess what that knock in my engine was.

Re: Piston failure

Everything so far is pointing more to the pistons failing from a stress fracture at the valve relief. My reasoning is that they both broke identically in the same exact spot, and even though these...

Re: Piston failure

I established that by the burn color on the spark plugs and on the valves. Running lean burns a light color onto the spark plugs and valves, running rich burns a dark color onto them.

Re: Piston failure

The two pistons that failed were the ones running rich, and the two that are fine are the ones that were running lean!? That's why I'm really baffled at all of this.

Re: Piston failure

It's got 183,000 miles on it. I ran seafoam through the fuel system over a year ago. It was bone stock when I bought it but I've since put 19lb injectors on it since two of the original were clogged,...
