Sounds like could be a ground issue but you have to also remember Kragen, Checker, Vatozone, Pep Boys etc etc products are not as good an an old OEM. I used to always put their parts on our vehicles...

Removing a fan, shroud, a couple rad hoses, tranny lines if its auto, and a few bolts that hold the radiator in. You can easily do it if your slightly mechanically inclined.

Bilstein makes a nice replacement shock, If your off roading you can always step up to a Fox, king, sway away, etc etc but they are a little more $$$ and require fab work.

Did you check the truck trans fluid while the truck was warm and running? If not you need to.

The housing is around $60 @ Ford and the thermostat is roughly $35. And those are OEM Ford parts. I cant see spending anywhere near $600 to change it for you. Book time at the dealer is 1.1 hours....

Spark plug wire not all the way on which would cause the misfire and the ticking noise. Double check they all clicked on.
