Re: 03' 4 Cylinder 2.3L Standard- Need help with a few codes!

The first code is for the IMRC system. The solenoid is supposed to activate to allow vacuum into the Manifold Runner Control module. It will be a big plastic thing on the firewall side of the #4...

Re: 2008 Ranger Water Pump Stuck 2.3L

I assume you have all three bolts out of it (12,3,6 o'clock)

I had to work on mine a bit to get it out. Dropping some oil in the space between the block and pump to get to the rubber o-ring can...

Re: 2010 Ranger 4 cyl. Five speed clutch replacement

If the clutch isn't slipping, and you have no reason to remove the transmission, then leave it be.

Re: Clutch Adjustment? Bad Parts?

Wrote this book on another ranger forum, this method has worked flawlessly for me.

Rangers are a bit finicky, in most cases it's suggested to "bench bleed" the master cyl. That is recommended...

Re: 2002 ford ranger 2.3l

The sensor on the head is called a Cylinder Head Temp Sensor, it has a low and high range signal that it sends to the ECU so it can monitor engine temp.

Are you absolutely sure there is no air in...

Re: Truck won't go in gear after changing slave

If you bleed the master and slave as one complete unit on the truck, you have to remove the master and turn it upside down to get all the air out of the system. The way the system draws fluid from...

Re: 2004 Ranger manual tranny hard to shift.

When was the last time the hydraulic master/slave system was bled? Brake fluid getsold and "bad" over time. It draws excess moisture, and with it, air. Over time that air can separate out of the...

Re: Dash lights slowly going out on 2003

I imagine it might be a loose connection at the cluster itself then.

Re: Upgrading front brakes ?

What pads are you using? Consider switching to the cheapest organic pads you can, since you can't get quality pads hot enough to have great cold-bite performance.

Otherwise, the dual piston...

Re: I tried to fix my clutch pedal pressure and broke it....

Keep the splash guards if you can. They keep the engine bay mch cleaner and easier to work on.

Also, keep the master off the truck until the whole system is bled. What I do is turn the master...

Re: Dash lights slowly going out on 2003

Sounds like one of the grounds is a little meh. Weird that its only getting some of the lights as all the lights are in parallel on the back of that cluster.

Re: 2003 2.3 Idle Issues... IMRC?

This is actually a well documented issue, and there are a few write ups surrounding this problem.

If you hadn't seen it, I was going to suggest it.

FWIW, the IMRC essentially does nothing,...

Re: Manual transmission problem

Two things, the first bing that the slave could be defective. I installed an aftermarket unit after my stock one failed around 150k. The new unit had a crack in the base, and wouldn't bleed out.

Re: Changed rotors/pads, Steering and car wobble.

It also helps if the pads are properly bed-in as well. Most don't take the time to do so, or don't have the proper space to.

If you suspect it is the rotor, you can use a dial indicator and check...

Re: Starting problem 2.3l

Sounds a lot like a ground issue. The clicking is probably a relay turning on and off due to intermittent ground problems.

The main engine ground is attached to the starter.

Re: Manual transmission problem

Through this whole thread, I did not once see any mention of a pilot bearing replacement. That in itself would cause a no-shift issue if it is failing/has failed.

That being said, if you ever...

Re: Brake lines and fittings

They appear to at least have some of the right fittings, but any autozone will have a whole shelf of them to choose from.

Re: Ranger 2006 50K, Ball Joints seem good

I personally run them until I either have a reason to check, or am under there for some other reason. If they don't squeak, don't have torn boots, and don't wobble about, then I don't worry about them

Re: 98 2.5 vs 01 2.3

The 2.3 has its caveats, in the form of nuances in repairs.

Its a transverse engine mounted North/South (and dubbed the 2.3 NS)

So some of the usual culprits to fail are the water neck gasket...

Re: Parking brake pedal not grabbing?

Make sure when you replace the shoes, to pull the cables from the e-brake cams and MAKE SURE they move when you push the pedal down. They need to ease in and out, with no real issue. If the drums...

Re: Parked Next to New Ranger XLT

If they sold it with other options than just the Eco 2.3T then I would be more interested. I was head over heels for the EcoDiesel option they had. Or whatever they called it.

Re: Parking brake pedal not grabbing?

The cable is likely stretched, and your rear drum pads are probably well-worn.

You can buy all the cables for the truck for less than 50 on rock auto. I would take the time to replace the rear...
