A friend bought a '98 ex cab 4x4 with 79k miles, and its in need of a clutch. Now I've been retired from the auto repair business for many years, but told him I'd look into it for him.
I...

Re: Hey Guys I need Tranny Help

I've swapped from automatic to standard in different vehicles over the years, but not a Ranger.
Its not hard if you have both vehicles to pick and choose parts from. The pedals are probably as hard...

Re: 1996 Ranger 2.3 Engine Swap

I haven't looked at the crank sensor mount on the '94, didn't have a need to because I was just changing the head.
Are there bosses on the block to allow for the mounting of the sensor? Drilling...

Re: 1996 Ranger 2.3 Engine Swap

Today I checked out a couple of different engines, and what I found is the '94 has a different head, in that, there are some mounting positions that are not the same as on the '95 & on.

The head...

Re: 1996 Ranger 2.3 Engine Swap

Hi Greg,
You'll do much better if you use the intake, the sub harness, power steering / AC mount, and any sensors from the '96 engine. The engine is a drop in, but there are "minor" changes, but...

Re: '94 2.3 with bad mis and heavy pinging

Update.

Pulled the head and was quite surprised at what I found. The #3 exhaust valve seat had come loose from the head and was caught between the valve and the port. I have never seen this...

Re: Another over heating 2.3

This has been ruled out as well, but a very good thought.

I haven't done much with the truck in the past week because to many other projects got ahead of it. Its on my mind, in that I keep...

Re: '94 2.3 with bad mis and heavy pinging

To be honest, I haven't checked. The truck is being delivered today, so I'll pull the codes when it arrives. I did learn that the PO replaced the TPS, whether or not that was adjusted correct is...

Re: Another over heating 2.3

Good ideas, I'll check the timing, but I do not recall seeing any kind of CAS, or distributor that can be adjusted. If the timing is off, how can it be corrected?

Unless the water pump impeller is...

Re: 1999 3.0 swap

If the '99 is PATS equipped, you had best head on down to the the local drug store and lay in a supply of Advil.

Aren't the 4.0 engines pretty easy to find? My kid had a '95 Exploder in high...

Re: "99 mid year head gasket change.

Thanks. That makes more sense than 2 different head gaskets. I'm not doing the stem seals, so getting the correct size isn't a problem. I just didn't want to find I had ordered the wrong head gaskets.

Re: PATS Control Module Location on '99 Ranger?

PATS Control Module Location on '99 Ranger?

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to locate the PATS control module in a '99 Ranger 3.0.

Not the transponder that is mounted to the key, the actual control module.

I have searched high and low...

Re: 99 ranger revs to 3k and idles there for no reason

Off hand I'd say you still have a bad ICM, or the ECM is receiving false information, and is responding by raising the idle to compensate. IE. temp sensor is telling the ECM the engine is cold, ECM...

Re: HELP! truck will not start or attempt to start. clicking noise under dash w/o key

Is the theft light on the dash blinking?

What you described is what happens if the wrong transponder key is used, or the transponder key has failed, etc.. The factory anti theft disables the...

According to the guy at the parts store, the 3.0 had a mid year head gasket change starting on July 26 of '99.

Of course the engine I'm working on was installed on the 23rd of July...
