Well folks, bad news. I spent two days searching and then the short disappeared! Current flow is now about 5-10 mA so that's probably the current to keep the radio clock correct. I wiggled lots and...

I have a similar problem. It is intermittent.
Works great sometimes and then other times will kill the battery over night. I can pull the battery terminal and measure 0.3 amps pulling with the key...
