It's your timing chain tensioner. Mine was doing the same exact thing for about 2 months til I brought it in to get fixed. Poor mileage, loud clanking noise, and reduced power. Depending on who you...

Re: Could new plugs and wires improve gas mileage?

Ok so as it turns out I don't have 31's on my truck. I have actually smaller tires than stock. I lost about 10mm in height but I gained 10mm in width on them. I don't know what that means but from...

Re: Could new plugs and wires improve gas mileage?

Well right now I'm at 235 miles on the odometer and I'm sitting at about just above the empty mark so that's already an improvement over my previous mileage.

Re: Could new plugs and wires improve gas mileage?

As a matter of fact I haven't had it recalibrated. I was told by the dealer that that size tires were the new stock size for that model year and that I wouldn't need to recalibrate the speedo/tach....

Re: Bad timing chain cassette/tensioner cause bad gas mileage?

It cost me about $585 to replace the tensioner alone. Only thing is is that mine was rattling all the time and I'm pretty sure that eventually the timing being off as much as it was would eventually...

Re: Bad timing chain cassette/tensioner cause bad gas mileage?

Well as it turns out the timing chain tensioner was completely shredded. The plastic on the outside was completely worn through causing the chain to slap against the metal throwing my timing off and...

Post Bad timing chain cassette/tensioner cause bad gas mileage?

I just got my truck in to the dealer because I have been noticing some issues. Mainly with my gas mileage and a pretty loud clanking noise. I just brought it into the dealer because I couldn't...
