Gen 1 to gen 2 front clip?

So I picked up an '87 with a 2.3l last night but the front clip, grill, and bumper are pretty ugly twisted. The fenders are pretty rusted out as well. I also have a '91 with a very clean front end. I...

Re: Starter/Flywheel Issues

Hey thanks Mike. I was mostly joking about not saying what the second issue was. Like I said, if you hook up the cables on the solenoid backwards you won't have any power. (That's what my problem...

Re: Starter/Flywheel Issues

Well I'm actually kind of glad nobody was too interested in this thread because I figgered it out on my own. Don't wanna tell anybody what the second problem was though but I will say this. If you...

Re: Starter/Flywheel Issues

Alright. So I got to looking at another starter from supposedly another '90 Ranger and they looked quite different, the other being quite a bit smaller. However it looked like it had a bigger Bendix....

Starter/Flywheel Issues

Here's how the story goes....
I picked up this '90 Ranger, 2.3 standard. Apparently it goes through starters on a regular basis. When I got it, when I'd try to start it the starter would crank but...

Re: Dadgum Trans Won't Come Out

Yeah actually. There are a lot of little things I could have skipped if I knew beforehand. For instance- take out the y-pipe before trying to take out the trans. Don't break the bolts in going into...

Re: Dadgum Trans Won't Come Out

Well people, I'm calling the operation a success. When I first started the truck I had only put in about 5 quarts. Being that I had lost some fluid from the torque converter and what not, I needed to...

Re: Dadgum Trans Won't Come Out

Well boys and girls, she's up and running! The thing now though, of course, is the OD OFF light on the dash is flashing and overdrive doesn't work. I know this probably has something to do with it...

Re: Dadgum Trans Won't Come Out

New trans is in. Now just the crossmember, driveshaft, y-pipe, and exhaust manifolds. Yes, the exhaust manifolds. I broke off a bolt on either manifold taking out the y-pipe... Awesome.

I just...

Re: Dadgum Trans Won't Come Out

I actually used an old floor jack I had. I took off the top cup deal and bolted on a flat piece of wood and put a block of wood with a large enough hole to fit over the bolt head. Worked pretty well....

Re: Dadgum Trans Won't Come Out

Thanks very much guys.

A bit of an update. I got sick of fighting it and decided to see if I could fit the old one.
Well the on the Ranger trans, the shaft that comes out of the bellhousing...

Re: Dadgum Trans Won't Come Out

One more try.
Still coming up about an inch short. What would cause this? The transmissions appear to be identical. All the measurements are the same.
How about this... The torque converter by...

Re: Dadgum Trans Won't Come Out

Well, sure is pretty lonely in this thread...
Turns out, the 96 Exploder trans is a 4R44E.
The Ranger has a 4R55E.
Now I won't be surprised if I don't get an answer but can I make the 4R44E work?...

Re: Dadgum Trans Won't Come Out

Well I fought it for a few days and decided to compare the torque converters. The Explorer converter is longer. So now the questions are...

1. Will the Ranger converter fit in the Explorer trans?...

Re: Dadgum Trans Won't Come Out

Thanks for the video. But now I'm pretty sure it's seated right. The main thing that was bothering me was how it moved around after it was seated but towards the end he jiggles it a bit and that's...

Re: Dadgum Trans Won't Come Out

Well... Now the new one won't go in. I get the converter bolts through the flywheel and that's about it. I made sure the converter is engaged, unless I'm doing it wrong. Should the converter move...

Re: Tire size to mpg ratio

Here's one for ya guys. I've got 3.73s, 5 speed and a 2.3. I switched to 31s for better mileage. They're 215/85/16. I haven't corrected my speedo so my odometer is off. According to the sticky chart,...

Re: Dadgum Trans Won't Come Out

I got the trans from a private seller. Came outta a 96 Explorer with about 150k. He said it worked fine when pulled (of course) but I didn't want to sell the truck and have someone come knockin' down...

Re: Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs....

I've got 'em on mine but they're still fairly new. I can say after about 10k miles they look brand new. Mine are 215/85/16.
