Even with a malfunctioning thermostat and always running cold (150ish) I get an average 23mpg city/highway (2wd, auto). I would think it would be better with proper engine temperature.

FYI
Holding the accelerator pedal to the floor on fuel injected engines (All vehicles, 1992 and newer?) is like turning off the fuel pump. Its for flooded start conditions.
This is why it starts...

Ford ended this special thermostat in 05 or 06 and replaced it with simple thermostats, to bad they missed the boat and didn't offer a fix for...
