Re: What's the best way to test for a blown head gasket???

I checked the oil it's not milky looking. I've been having a problem with the radiator running low on coolant but I'm not sure where it's leaking at. You can definitely smell radiator fluid when the...

Re: What's the best way to test for a blown head gasket???

Obviously a compression test would work. I don't have a compression tester. Is there any other way?

What's the best way to test for a blown head gasket???

I'd hate to tear my engine down just to find out the head gasket isn't the problem. Is there a sure fire way to test for a blown head gasket?

Re: Loss of coolant and misfire help

I checked the oil, it looks fine it's not milky looking at all. I'm pretty sure it's not a blown head gasket. When you start the truck with the radiator cap off no coolant sprays up so it must not be...

Loss of coolant and misfire help

I have a 97 2.3L 4 cylinder ranger and I've noticed that it keeps running low on radiator coolant. I figured it was just a heater core leak and figured if I just kept the coolant level topped off it...

Re: Cylinder misfire help

I replaced the fuel filter about a month ago so I'm pretty sure that it's fine and I replaced the air filter around the same time. I didn't know that low oil could cause a cylinder misfire. I just...

Re: Cylinder misfire help

I've got an update on the situation for you. I just got back from getting the truck scanned for codes and this time I got codes for a #1 and #3 cylinder misfire. Before it was just a #3 cylinder...

Re: Check engine light

It could be a dirty fuel injector on the #1 cylinder but that is usually unlikely.

Re: Replaced Clutch master cylinder now no start

I know if the clutch isn't engaging properly then the truck won't start. It'd be like trying to start the truck without pressing on the clutch pedal it just won't work. That wouldn't have nothing to...

Re: Cylinder misfire help

So here's the deal now. I replaced the fuel injector on the #3 cylinder and reset the CEL. Drove approximately 55 miles and the CEL came back on. I haven't scanned the code yet so I'm not sure if...

Re: Cylinder misfire help

I had an extra set of plug wires that I know for sure are good so I went ahead and changed the #3 cylinder wires. I tested the coils with my digital multimeter. Primary coil resistance was 1.0 Ohms...

Unhappy Cylinder misfire help

My 97 2.3 4 cylinder Ranger's CEL came on the other day so I took it to Autozone and they scanned it and it turned out to be a #3 cylinder misfire code. I went ahead and changed the plugs (the old...

Thumbs up 1997 4cyl Ranger Engine

I have a 97 4 cylinder Ford Ranger motor for sale. The motor runs but has low compression readings on the #1 and #4 cylinders. Instead of fixing it I just bought a new motor to drop in my Ranger. It...

Re: Low cylinder PSI = New Motor ???

I found a nice used motor for $400.00 that I'm gonna drop in it. I just can't believe that my motor gave out with 193,000 miles on it. I thought it still had at least a couple of years left in her.

Unhappy Low cylinder PSI = New Motor ???

My 1997 2.3L 4cyl Ranger was running really rough with an extreme loss of power. I took it to the local auto shop and the mechanic there said that he did a compression check on all four cylinders....

Re: What happens when you cross signal and ground wires?

I did what you said. Started the truck up and it was idling rough like usual then I disconnected the MAF wiring harness and the engine immediately died and wouldn't start again. I then reconnected...

Hey thanks a lot Jp7 I tested the voltage and found out that the MAF is working correctly. Thanks for the info if I hadn't known that I would have wasted a couple hundred bucks on a new one. Keep up...

Re: changing pcv valve 2003 ranger 2.3

Yes they are a pain in the ass to get to on the 4 cyl motors. Why are you replacing it? Sometimes adding Seafoam to the crank case oil will unclog/free up a dirty PCV valve and you don't have to...

How to test the secondary ignition coils resistance on a 97 ford ranger 4cyl?

I tested the primary coil resistance using a digital multimeter set on Ohms. One of the primary coils gave me a 1.0 Ohm reading and the other primary coil gave me a 0.9 reading which according to my...

Re: Whats going on?

Ya I was getting the misfire and thats when I decided to change all the plugs and wires but that didn't seem to help the problem at all. All the plug wires were OEM and the plugs were Bosch.

I did find a loose vacuum line I'm going to fix it and see what happens. I replaced the fuel filter last week. I was going to check all vacuum lines but I don't have the proper tools to do it. I'll...
