look at the top of the dip stick. It should say Dexron, MercronIII or Mercron V As old as it is, I beleive its the Dexron/Mercron (thats what my 97 F350 uses) Your owners manual will also say....

Go with the cheaper plugs like Autolites, Motorcrafts or NGK. And I believe that platnums are a waste of money. Just go with the cheapest one from a bran above.

Just work your way around the pan, and make them snug. Not too tight. I've done a pan on a 4.0, and many other oil pans and trans pans and diff covers just like this with no problems.

If you're up for it, the parts stores sell the thread chase you need for the plug holes. If you do it, put wheel bearing grease on it to help catch the shavings.

I'm having the same problem I have read to clean out the IAC. I'm going to do it tomorrow and clean the MAF as well. I'll let you know if it works.
