so in my 2001 ranger xlt i have the 60/40 seats with a flip down center console. the center console does not have a cup holder in it. i was wondering if it would be possible to swap a flip down...

Depends on what you want to use your truck for.. Like for me living in pa and having pa winters and having to haul my hockey stuff around the cover is the way to go.. It's really your own opinion...
