If your door has never been taken apart, the tab has been there for 25 years, so keep pulling.
WD40 plus wobbling up and down may help.
If not, take the door interior panel off and try to work it...

UPDATE:

Well, as crazy as it might sound, I tryed this:

Removed the new K&N filter and installed the original Motorcraft filter and let the truck idle for a while; NO GAS SMELL ON THE EXHAUST

MONDAY UPDATE:

With the engione on, I can hear air, which means VACUUM LEAK.

I dont know exactly where its comming from, but deffinetely I can hear vacuum scaping from some where.

Went for a longer test drive on the HW.
Not sure if has something to do, but I noticed the temp gauge never reached the normal operating temperature. The needle on the dash raised half...
