I have the same problem with mine. I pulled the fuse (#8 engine compartment) so my battery would not be killed because the locks and horn would go off randomly. Just started researching this problem....

I would check the fuel pressure. A lean run condition will cause detonation (ping) and a weak fuel pump can cause it to run lean. With this much mileage and with the gauge not working, I think I...

My experience with Standard parts is that they are garbage. Go with the Motorcraft part, especially with such an important and hard to replace part.

Re: '99 Rough idle/Misfire 2.5L

Problem came back. Turns out the fuel pump was bad. FYI- it is MUCH easier to remove the bed and replace the pump standing over the tank then to drop the tank, especially If the tank is full like...

Hooked up a fuel pressure gauge and found intermittent no pressure. I swapped the fuel pressure relay with another and the PCM relay for good measure. Seems like problem solved. The head was bad so...

Re: '99 Rough idle/Misfire 2.5L

Well...I went for a test drive. It was initially hard to start. I just figured the lifters had to pump up after the rebuild and the fuel pressure had to come up. After some spitting and complaining...

Re: '99 Rough idle/Misfire 2.5L

That's what I'm thinking- that the lifters are holding the valves open ever so slightly. The machinist said that all 4 exhaust valve seats were no good. He rebuilt the head with new seats all...

Took the head off my truck and brought it to the machine shop. The rebuilder flipped it over and noticed right away that the valve seats were recessed. Looks like I found the problem. Thanks to all...

Re: '99 Rough idle/Misfire 2.5L

When my wife complains about a mystery noise in the car i tell her we will find out what it is when it finally fails. I guess we could wait till it eats a valve. Then I'll have a reason to pull the...

Re: 2.5l major issues please somebody help me :(

Anyone solve this problem yet? Some are suggesting that our misfire problem is being caused by a defective valve seat. Has anyone replaced the head on their truck?

Re: Idle fluctuates low

You need to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and then allow the ecm to relearn the idle over several drive cycles. I have found cleaning is temporary, it should be replaced

Re: 2.5l major issues please somebody help me :(

I replaced the IACV, gave the throttle body a good cleaning with a bottle brush, and I sprayed the mass air sensor with cleaner. I was told that when you replace the iacv you need to disconnect the...

Re: Idle fluctuates low

Ranger153 says he found his problem. He says he has a bad valve. I don't think we have the same problem, but it is possible. Your theory on erg pressure at idle is flawed because the erg valve is...
