Re: Left key in "on" position overnight...
Great minds think alike... checked it last night.
With the engine off, the battery reads 12.1v. With the engine on, the system reads 13.8v (which would indicate to me the alternator is charging-...

Re: Left key in "on" position overnight...
Finally got to start it back up, and apparently no major damage done.
However, the battery seems to have had it... the volts go only go up to 13v while driving, and with all my off-road lights...

VICTORY- at least for the moment!
I put a thin layer of the black Permatex on the mounting surface, but then got hung up arranging things and it started to stiffen. As I scraped it off with a...

Re: Pitted thermostat mounting surface...
So, based on the picture of the pits would you be inclined to just use the o-ring and call it a day (or would you use a thin layer of Permatex black)?

Re: Pitted thermostat mounting surface...
Here is an image of the pitting. I wouldn't be concerned if a.) it wasn't right where the rubber o-ring seals the surface and b.) I hadn't noticed the seepage on the original housing in the same...

Re: Leaking Thermostat housing
Fortunately, I purchased Ford parts to replace mine (in fact, they're showing as on the truck for delivery today). I wish I had known there is an all-aluminum alternative for this part, I would have...

Re: Left key in "on" position overnight...
Thanks- went out and turned the key back to "ON" after the battery was recharged. I could hear the pump cycle on for a second and then shut off, so that's looking good. Also, hit the starter for a...

Re: Leaking Thermostat housing
I'm in the middle of swapping out the thermostat housing myself, and will admit to looking at that intake numerous times with the thought "I wonder how hard it would be to just remove that thing."

Stupid mistake...
Been working on my truck in the garage, and have to push it back a couple feet to work on it. Last night when I pushed it back in to close the garage door, I must have thrown it...

I'm replacing a cracked thermostat housing on my 2004 Ranger 4.0L (it cracked right at the seam behind the sensors).
I've gotten everything out, and I notice there is some pitting on the aluminum...

Re: Installed Go Rhino and kept bed cover...
Thanks! When I cut the openings for the bars, I cut in an "X" pattern (with the idea I would wrap the vinyl around the metal and stitch a "pocket" around the ring). Getting a door seal and using...

Installed Go Rhino and kept bed cover...
I always wanted bed bars, but I really like having a tonneau cover, so I finally decided to install both.
I knew I'd have to cut the cover, so I found an inexpensive one on eBay for $100, then I...

I'll post pics once the wheels are on. Right now, I'm still wrestling with fitting Go Rhino bed bars- which wouldn't be all that hard except I'm trying to retain my tonneau cover as well (have to...

Re: JK Rubicon wheel fitment...
Thanks- I figured it should work, but when I couldn't find a single pic of a Ranger sporting JK Rubicon wheels, I began to doubt (of course, it could just be that no one else likes that look :^)!

Mine is zip-tied behind the driver's side fog light (basically behind the lower part of the bumper), which puts it in about the same position it was mounted on the Mountaineer it came from. It...

Re: How-To: OHC Install
Okay, the info on the function of the speed sensor makes sense given the readings I had on the OHC today.
1. Started the drive home from work with a cold engine- as the info suggested, the...

Re: Seats that fit in the Ranger
Just to elaborate, the Ranger's seat belt receiver (at least in 2004) has a wiring harness that has 4 pins. The Explorer receiver (at least in 1999) has a harness with only 2 pins.
I tried all...

Re: How do I tell if I have a camber plate?
Well, as it turned out they did have to install some bolts to do the alignment. I was very surprised to find the main adjustment needed wasn't the camber, but rather the caster and toe-in (the...

I guess we'll keep the...

Thanks to the OP (and everyone who posted tips)!
Son and I went to the pick-n-pull on Saturday, found a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer with a clean OHC, and paid $17 for the OHC and temp sensor.

How do I tell if I have a camber plate?
New to Rangers (purchased an 04 FX4 OffRoad last week), and definitely new to torsion bars.
I'm planning on lifting my front by cranking my T-bars (thankfully did a bunch of searches and realized...
