Re: 99 4X4 all jacked up after mechanic fixed

Ended up being a mismatched tire issue. Had two new tires put on the front by a local tire mart and they put the wrong size on. All 4 wheels can't turn at the same speed without the same size tires.

99 4X4 all jacked up after mechanic fixed

Recently had my 99 V6 4.0 in the shop and they had to pull the tranny (needlesly I might add) now when I try to use 4 wheel drive it acts like the emergency breaks are on. If I force it a little...

Re: Can't find Camshaft Position Synchronizer

Mechanic told me it was the flex plate but after they got into it they decided the problem was the cam position synchronizer after all. That jives with the info I got from this forum.

Re: Can't find Camshaft Position Synchronizer

Mechanic diagnosed as broken flex plate not cam position sync. Nothing a $1,000 and a week in the shop won't fix.

Re: Can't find Camshaft Position Synchronizer

Definitely a 4.0. Maybe the noise isn't the CPS. I will have mechanic check it out.

Can't find Camshaft Position Synchronizer

CPS is chirping and probably needs to be replaced but I can't find it on my 99 Ranger 4.0 6 cyl. What needs to come off to locate? I'm sure it's been covered here before but I'm not having any...

Re: Squeaking noise front end.

After a little looking around on the net I found instances of a similar problem and the culprit was a dust excluder shield. Anybody heard of this and what do I need to do to shut it up?

Re: Is Front Axle Replacement Doable?

CV joint is the goal but I've heard it's easier to replace the whole axle instead of just the CV joint. True/False?

Is Front Axle Replacement Doable?

Is replacing the front axles on a 99 4x4 a realistic job for an amateur mechanic with average skills? Or should I pony up the cash and take it to an expert?

Squeaking noise front end.

Thought I had squeaky brake pads/rotors but after cleaning and greasing the squeak is still there. I even put it on jackstands and took the calipers/rotors off and can still hear the squeak. Could...

Re: 99 4.0 6 cylinder. Loud engine noise

Thanks JKH. Cleaning the IAC worked for a while but I ended up buying a new one at Advance Auto Parts for $60. Problem solved.

Little help here fellas. I gotta a 99 Ranger, 6 cylinder with a 4.0. There is an intermittent loud noise under the hood that sounds like somebody running a shop vac under there. Every once in a...
