248,000 miles and torsion bars - worn out?

My son's '06 FX4 has shiny spots on the control arms where the bump stops are hitting frequently. We replaced the shocks with Bilstein upgrades about a year ago, so that shouldn't be the issue. ...

Re: Help us diagnose a problem from these video clips

Good question - IIRC the rear doesn't use a CV Joint (double cardan at one end and regular u-joint at the other), but I'd check the U-joints. That "ringing" sound is caused by the hollow drive...

Re: Help us diagnose a problem from these video clips

Based on all the brilliant advice I received on this post, I found the problem. :D

It was indeed the CV Joint on the prop shaft - it took about 4 days of soaking in PB Blaster and tapping with a...

Re: Help us diagnose a problem from these video clips

Pretty sure this is the CV joint after further inspection. Only problem now is that I snapped off the T30 bit trying to get the U-Joint retaining caps off... Now they have to soak in PB Blaster while...

Re: Help us diagnose a problem from these video clips

Bump.... Any ideas? I'm going to be packing up some tools and driving 4 hours to help him figure it out today. Sure would be great to narrow this down a bit first!

Help us diagnose a problem from these video clips

Hey everyone,

My son has been in training on mechanical stuff since we got him his ‘06 Ranger a few years ago. So far that has included lots of oil changes a battery change, upgraded shocks, a...

Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?

Hard to tell much from the photos. Best thing you can do is change the oil regularly with good quality oil and do a compression check. If you get low compression in one cylinder, squirt some oil...

Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?

I don’t mean to scare you but that sounds like maybe main bearings (bright silver non-ferrous) or possibly valve guides (usually bronze colored). Does she burn oil?

You can have chemical analysis...

Wow. Curious what sorts of “failures” you’ve seen (if any). Which engine?

Re: GLDMMBR's Mods - 5.0 Swap and Lots More

Hey I'm curious about that Explorer center console - do you have any pictures? The console in my '06 FX4 is falling apart (its the one with two cup holders in front and the flip-up arm rest with...

Re: Recommendation for a good LED light bar for front grill?

Thanks. Do you say the double row is the way to go because it is brighter, or because you're happier with the mounting position on the bumper?

Re: Recommendation for a good LED light bar for front grill?

It appears that for some reason no one mounts LED light bars on the grill or bumper of their Ranger...I have spent about an hour google image searching and haven't found anything other than some...

Re: Which years/models were pre-wired for cargo lights?

Works but has the following drawbacks:

1. Not always immediately available ("where the heck did I put that flashlight...")

2. Not automatic

3. Useless if you need to use both hands to load...

Re: Which years/models were pre-wired for cargo lights?

Can you get to the dome light wire via the hole for the 3rd brake light, or do you have to pull the headliner or go at it from under the dash and then up through the body (which sounds like a lot of...

Which years/models were pre-wired for cargo lights?

Is there any consistency as to which models/years were pre-wired for cargo lights? I have an '06 FX4 with "all the bells and whistles" but it does not have cargo lights in the 3rd brake light. ...

Recommendation for a good LED light bar for front grill?

Taking some quick measurements, it looks like the top row of the front grill will accommodate something about 22" long and 1-3/4" tall.

Does anyone have experience with installing a light bar in...

Re: Hows your GAS MILEAGE on ur truck? Let me know here.

^|^|^|^|^

Yup.

If you had a Ranger with small skinny street tires and a front valence/air dam you might improve mileage by 1 to 3 mpg. But the basic aerodynamics (or lack thereof) and...

Ive spent a lot of time on this problem over the years. It depends on whether the surface is textured or smooth. Either way you have to REMOVE the wax residue. Just wiping on goop (including...

Re: 2006 Hight Beams stuck on

Thanks. Of course the price of this part for most rangers is $25 but for the ‘06 it is apparently the same as the F250 and F350 and is $50.
