Re: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end

Just wondering, no modification or replacement of master cylinder? And no problems with rear ABS?

Re: 1996 4 cyl Manual - 50 State vehicle?

As long as it has a working EGR valve, and a non-modified exhaust you should be ok. If the ERG is missing or been blocked off you will run into problems here in CA. And it could get expensive to...

Re: What to do?

Personally, I would keep it. As you said, it will be paid off, it has a bed for hauling, which you might need if you do get hitched, and move. And look around a while for exactly what you want in...

Re: Ongoing Transmission Problems

Re-read the original post and the thing that strikes me is that you say it gets worse as things heats up. That tells me that either the trans is low on fluid, or the fluid is no longer lubricating...

Re: 1999 Ford Ranger 2.5L 2wd has horrible miss

Didn't have a problem with the engine running on after turning the key off, but it refused to idle at a reasonable rpm, and rarely dropped rpm when shifting. Acted kind of erratic as far as idle...

Re: Ongoing Transmission Problems

My first recommendation would be to change your tranny fluid. If you already have, then make sure it's full. If it's low it could be causing dry spots on the shift rails, as these are lubricated by...

Re: 1999 Ford Ranger 2.5L 2wd has horrible miss

JMD90,

Not exactly sure on the 2.5L, but the evap code is a familiar one on the 2.3L engines. Don't ignore it. Take a look at the evap hoses, make sure they aren't rotted away. Also check the...

Re: Bob Reid

Do you feel any vibration? My gut tells me if you've already gone through the front end, then maybe look at your driveshaft. Look for any looseness or dents in the shaft tube. Also look to see if a...

Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?

Just hit 240,000 on my 96 B2300. Still runs strong and it's been the most dependable car/truck I've ever owned.

Re: High oil pressure issue

I'm not familiar with this particular engine, but I have seen a similar problem on others. The first thing I would do is pull the breather cap and put your hand over it to make a tight seal. Do you...

Re: 96 ranger 2.3 8 plug heating issues

Here's something you might try... Start with a cold engine.
Remove the radiator cap. Fill the radiator with water and start the engine.
Look into the radiator, but don't put your face directly...

Re: What to replace while it's open?

Haven't had any of your problems so far, but have replaced clutches many, many times. I would suspect that your slave cylinder is going out. Are you loosing clutch fluid? How many miles on the...

Re: 98 Cluster With Tach 4x4

Still have this cluster? It should fit a '96 B2300 as well, right? All I really need is the clear plastic cover, but for $40 I may take the whole thing.

Re: Elusive timing belt tensioner tool

No problem. And don't be too surprised if the timing marks aren't 100% dead on. I've found that with most of the 2.3's the pointer on either the cam or the oil pump will be just a hair off when you...

Re: Elusive timing belt tensioner tool

Did mine last year, and if you are careful, a big screwdriver or pry bar is really all you need. Yeah the special tool would be nice, but like you said, nobody has it. Maybe enlist the help of a...

Re: Clutch install walk through?

Had the same leaking problem with mine this weekend. What I found was the cause was I followed the videos too closely. I bench bled the entire system, master AND slave, on the bench.

When I...

Re: 3m tape

Actually there is better stuff out there. I can't remember the brand or common name for it but it is the same stuff they use on helicopter blades to prevent ships and dings. It's a little expensive,...

Re: Turn Signal Problem

If I remember correctly the turn signal and hazard lights use 2 different relays. But just because you hear them clicking doesn't mean they aren't bad. I've run into this problem as well, and could...

Re: re-sealing 3rd brake light

Mine leaked too. Went to Ford, couldn't buy just the gasket, had to by the whole third break light assembly.... $175.00 !!!! Ended up using RTV. Keep in mind mine is from a 96 B2300, but dealer...

Re: engine running hot, really hot.

I'm guessing you already checked the coolant level, if not do so. Then let it idle until you start seeing the temp rise. when it reaches or starts to pass the normal point on the gauge (I find every...

Re: I have no ideas left, please help before I have to scrap my Ranger!

I also have to side with the ECU. Remember these guys default to a "limp home" mode when the ECU dies, and trying to drive it like normal is almost impossible. The fact that you can't communicate...
