Re: Headlight upgrade recommendations

Ended up with aftermarket generic oem replacement housings to replace the water-filled, fogged up, ready to crack aftermarket oem replacements that were in there, and some led bulbs. Overall cost...

Re: Headlight upgrade recommendations

The headlights on my '96 are super dim. Are there any stockish looking modern replacements, or is a projector retrofit still a recommended option?

Anyone have any ideas of what type projector...

Re: Replacing the parking brake release pull

On the parts truck, I used a bolt cutter to cut the flat lever that the pull is rivited to. Then there's 2 or so screws near the handle. Ground the rivet off on the bench grinder, drilled hole...

Re: 1997 ranger door sensor?

To disable the dinger.

There is a single wire connector on the ignition cylinder. Cut the wire or yank it out (I did the latter) and no more door ding!

Re: Front end swap

Found a brush guard in a buddy's scrap pile marked 1998 ranger. He said I can have it, but is there a way to fit it to my 1996 without changing the rest? My front end was recently repaired and is...

Re: '96 Splash lift

The '98 was the devil sohc, before they fixed them in '01 (?), with the timing chain tensioner issues. Made really good power.

Re: '96 Splash lift

Push rod or ohc 4L? Automatic or manual? What was the original tire size?
I had a '98 expo with the sohc 4L and that truck had some get up and could pull... My setup will still burn the tires...

Re: '96 Splash lift

Found a gear ratio calculator, says the 3.73 with 31s runs 3.07 to 1. Recommends 4.54 as ideal so I'll throw in the 4.10. Goes hard in 1 and 2, 4th barely holds 60 (no telling what actual speed...

Re: '96 Splash lift

So far, results have been overall positive. Took some railroad tracks at speed and it felt great, not too stiff and no rubbing. Only negative is the gearing. It still has getup but it feels like...

Re: '96 Splash lift

So as a step by step, here's what I did:

Break loose wheel, jack up truck, place on jackstand, remove wheel

Take off lower shock bolt and top sway bar bolt, may have to jack up the arm to get...

Re: '96 Splash lift

Okay I'm about to lose a front tire (dry rot, separation, threads showing) so I ordered some 31x10.5 15s up at Sam's club, should be in today.

Got to fix the sag before they will mount the tires....

Lockable compartment

Was there an optional locking glove box door or center console for the gen 3 trucks? Or something that would retrofit?

The reason I ask is that state law dictates that a concealed firearm must...

Re: What do I do?

My 1998 explorer had the sohc. Tensioners went bad twice (original chains then replacements), second time wasted a head. Iirc they fixed the issue around 2001. If you have the tools it's no biggie...

Yeah sounds like yours is just busted. You can check the connections on the rear as the mapping sometimes pulls out a little bit when you unplug the thing. All the mapping for that side comes from...

Re: Instrument cluster

I'll take my 2 back and get 2 more, probably tomorrow.
