Was the transmission making any noise or leaking?
If not, I would clean out the case really well (try to find the chip of gear tooth), refill with fresh lubricant and put it back in.

When I was lookin' for a Ranger I wanted a 2 door Supercab.
I ended up buying a 4 door version and I'm really glad...getting stuff in and out of the rear of the cab is super easy with the 4 door.

Local accessory/repair shop has been stroking me since Oct. as to why the set I ordered thru them haven't...

After the freezing rain this past weekend, I hate that my '08 doesn't have heated mirrors.
The checking I've done leads me to believe that heated mirrors were never an option on Rangers.

When I started looking at Rangers I wanted a 2 door extended cab.
The truck I bought is a 4 door extended cab.
Now that I've had it a couple of months, I can say I would have HATED a 2 door...

You really need to inspect it and drive it and then decide if the asking price is...

Careful with that...when frozen it will be a 300-400 lb, missile in the event of an accident. More better to buy 5 or 6 50lb. bags of play sand from Home Depot or Lowes. You can also use the sand as...

.030" is less than 1/32nd of an inch, so, it would be a negligible difference.

If you're really concerned, buy some .030" shim stock and make spacers.

WOW! Based on your update on the blue unit I feel compelled to adjust my initial assessment. At $5K asking price, it's overpriced by $4K!

WOW!! That's a tall asking price! That unit doesn't seem to have a lot of options, either.

I'd been looking for a nice Ranger for over 3 months before I found my '08 FX4. The dealer had it listed at $8500, and it is LOADED. The miles were 153K.
IMO, the blue truck is about $3K+ over...
