Do like this guy said. Quickest test with no tools is to pull injectors out and crank it. Have a hand with you. Preferably one who knows a thing or 2. If fuel squirts it's not injectors.

My 96 2.3 5 speed did that. Believe it was an intake sensor most likely tps. I just reset my ecm to clear codes because I had other problems and the high revs stopped.
