Re: 2005 V6 wouldn't start - low on oil

Might be an intermittent fault of the fuel pump relay and/or the relay circuit. Turn on the ignition, don't crank the engine, listen for the 1- or 2- second whir of the fuel pump. Then try a start....

Re: P0430 Check Engine Light - Cat replacement?

How did Ford test the antifreeze, oil, and exhaust? Did they pressure test the cooling system? I had my 93 Ranger tested by a shop to diagnose coolant loss (no visible leaks) -- they found nothing....

Wink A tale of overfilled engine oil

I overfilled the engine of my 1993 Ranger (V6 3.0l) by 3/4 quart of oil, drove for two weeks with no sign of distress (except my own). Being a might OCD I decided to drain the excess, not via the...

Around town driving and 45-mile round-trip commute 3 days a week. I get 18 - 20 mpg. I resist driving faster than 65 mph, not always successfully.

Re: Starting problem when it's cold out - Pump Relay Part Number

My truck is a 1993 Ranger with the 3.0 liter engine. The relay in it has no part number. My spare is a Standard Motor Products RY116. Rockauto lists four others, WVE 1R1061, and three cheapies,...

Re: Starting problem when it's cold out

Some have said the fuel pump relay has been checked. How did you check it? Plenty of websites tell how to do this, for example https://axleaddict.com/auto-repair/how-to-test-relays

I had a...

Re: Truck starts by moving the Shift Lever out of Park

Ghouse62,

Yes indeed, a strange problem. How did you diagnose it? I know a fair bit about Rangers but not the automatic transmission. I'm happy you found the problem!

Re: Help looking for a PDF Shop Service Manual for 2008 Ranger

I agree that the Haynes manuals are not perfect. Photos not always helpful, diagrams often too small to show details, and random errors.

Re: Truck starts by moving the Shift Lever out of Park

Once started, does the transmission shift as it should? Can you shift into all the gears with the lever? If so, I'd take out the ignition lock cylinder and go from there. First check a shop manual...

Re: Starting problem when it's cold out

How did you check the fuel pump relay? Try swapping in a new relay. Also try some electrical parts cleaner such as CRC Lectra-Motive in the plug-ins for the relay. Some conductive grease on the...

Does this look like an exhaust manifold leak?

Photos show what looks to me like an exhaust manifold leak on cylinder #3, 3.0L V6, 1993 Ranger, leaking where the manifold bolts to the cylinder head. May be the source of a ticking sound.

The...

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread IV

Nothing. I'm waiting to get it back from an engine rebuild. I hope within about a week. Here's a photo of the rebuilt engine in the shop. It needed rebuilt heads.

Ain't it purty!

Missed it! Left at the repair shop to have its 3.0 L V6 rebuilt. Worked on 1988 VW Jetta instead.

Trim retainers push into a plastic fitting or a hole in the body metal.

The retainers push in easily but can be very difficult to remove. At least
they were on my 1993 Ranger.

Re: Trying to get my truck to pass smog in California

Put the thermostat back, and use coolant (water + antifreeze). Without the thermostat, the engine doesn't warm fast enough and the computer will "think" it needs extra fuel, just as for a cold...
