Re: burke753's 2003 XLT project/new daily driver
Ok. So it's been awhile since I updated. My faulty TCC got the better of me in October. Smoked the transmission again in the middle of nowhere with my daughter. Had to get a tow back into town.

I wish that was a real picture. We've got companies going out of business left and right and I'm still not busy enough to be making good money. I'm ready for oil prices to go way back up!!!!

Re: burke753's 2003 XLT project/new daily driver
Yeah I knew better than to use a used one. But it was one I could get my hands on that day and I was ready to drive the truck.
It's not that big of a deal. It'll probably take me about 2-3 hours...

Re: burke753's 2003 XLT project/new daily driver
It honestly doesn't take any special tools. Unless you're going to pull the Pistons out of the drums. They take some spring compressors.
But don't hold me to that. I say it doesn't take anything...

Re: burke753's 2003 XLT project/new daily driver
I overhauled it. All new frictions, steels, lip seals gaskets everything. I'm not gonna waste my time and do a half assed repair. It's out so better to just fix it right the first time

Nope. Same thread I've had since I bought it. I haven't updated it in a few months. There is also another thread with a guy who has an 05. But our trucks are very similar.

Well my transmission took a crap. So I rebuilt it. Right now I'm just waiting for some time to put in the overdrive planetary. I blew up the forward sprag and lost drive and reverse. Also locked the...

Yeah seriously. I think it took me longer to drink my coffee and unlock my toolbox than it did to remove the cluster and flip the needle back around. There is no reason to drill into the cluster.

Re: Transmission problems
I just read this thread. Sounds like the major problem is the front(overdrive) sprag. Which means the overdrive planetary is shot.
Also once it gets opened up you'll probably find burnt frictions...

Are you changing just the sensor? Or the whole synchronizer? You need the whole synchronizer.
I ordered a motorcraft replacement synchronizer and a new sensor through Orielly and it was a ton...

Yeah. Simple as this. And yeah you've got to take the shoes off. Well it makes it easier anyway. I'm sure if someone was motivated enough they could do it with the shoes still on. I just changed mine...

I guess it depends how much you use your mower. But I buy tru fuel by the gallon for my mower.
It's $25 so it is pretty expensive per gallon. But as much as I use it. It really doesn't matter....

Idk. They're pretty hit or miss. I had an extremely early build 2012 Focus with the power shift and drove it for quite awhile. Never had a single issue with it. Honestly that was one of my favorite...

It's called being in phase. And the driveline is a balanced piece of metal that is attached to the yoke in a certain way. If you put it 180 out you'll cause a vibration.
Think of it like having a...

Re: Im torn 4wd vs 2wd
Just go with the 4.0 4wd. I've got a 3.0 2wd and while I could care less about the engine the drivetrain probably wouldn't be ideal if I didn't also have a 4wd.
Granted my truck does just fine in...
