Try taking off the spark plug from cyliner #1, and mark sure that it TDC. I've heard that there are two possible possitions that will align to the marking with.

Please excuse a dumb question, is it really possible to get the timing belt 180 degrees off? I take it that the cylinder #1 is the one closest to the front of the truck, correct?

My guess is that it's either a leak in the slave cylinder; or that the system is not fully bleed. How did you bleed it? Pushing the clutch pedal and turning the bleed screw?? Maybe you should get one...

Got it in!! No idea why it was so hard, I've done other timing belts and they were a breeze. Had to put the Cam sprocket off a little and then it snapped into place when I released the tensioner. No...

I guess there is a difference between the 200o and 2003 I4's? On my truck, the tstat was in the plastic housing, but I took it out and ordered just the tstat.

This is correct. Just a little more description: On my 2000 ranger (I4) the thermostat is next to the water pump. It's in a plastic housing that is bolted to the block.
