the paint mark goes in a horizontal plane, UP, the boss on the plate goes to the inside, and the bolts face away from the arm center , front bolts towards radiator, rear bolts towards cab

Ok I did the Chevy 64 conversion 3+1 (overload) I removed the over load and it is a tiny bit better but still to stiff I also bought Billstein 5100's and I think they are to stiff as well.

Must have been have been an aftermarket I have had a terrible time getting them in, the MotorCraft slid right.
A duel trace scope is the best way to time it.
Here is a way with out a scope

You can not simply bolt and go, you must line up the converter support bushing , the bell is part of the pump.

A vacuum leak can cause this symptom, as well as fuel timing being off, Cam sensor/ synchronizer out of time,
A P0305 is a general misfire on cyl. 5 a P0205 is for Inj. circuit, your mech. said it...

A p0205 would be for a # 5 injector circuit, connectors are a source of failure as is a rodent of some kind warming himself in the intake valley and nibbling on some nice wire shielding

I think the early A4LD's are all hyd./vac. operated. Maybe a 93 Ranger or an earlier Aerostar. I have an Explorer for parts , steering column, and brake pedal.

Cheapest bang for your buck is put a gear in it, it will feel like 50 plus hp,

Center support bearing can cause a lot of vibes at odd times, also a separated tire will cause a lot of issues too
One last thing if some one was getting crazy and slid into a curb may have bent an...

why are you upgrading injectors? do you have high flow cylinder heads? a bigger cam shaft? forced induction?
More air through a motor makes more power not more fuel
