Resu-wrecked ideas

Looking for ideas, and I know you guys can help.

I picked up a '98 2wd, 5 speed Ranger a couple of years ago, in trade for some work. It was in great shape, has a hard tonneau and rhino-lined...

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread

Replaced the factory alternator with a 130 amp unit, and looked at the mess that the Mexican chick, who didn't speak English, have a driver's license, or insurance, made of my bumper and lower...

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread

I've picked up a '98 2wd and 3.55 gears this fall, that I use as a car.
I basically look at it as a 2 seater with a big trunk (hard tonneau).
I don't do any street racing like i used to when I...

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread

Cool, is that a 4.0 then?

I'll bet it's a beast out of the hole.

What did that do for your mileage?

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread

Not latex, but nitrile.

Unless it's cold, I usually do tear down bare handed.

I usually wear those when I''m reassembling or doing any kind of electrical, including ignition.

My hands...

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread

The ol' BII has developed a cold start issue, and I tracked it down to the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor.
This sensor is under the throttle body, in a pretty tight spot.
She also needed a tune...

Re: Mag light mount

It is completely out of the way. Mine's been there for years, and I've never come close to hitting it.

Re: Cat Converter...Im'a dog person...

Unless it's been running rich for a long time, the cats are probably fine. There is absolutely no performance gain from removing perfectly good cats.
Besides, nothing says "shadetree mechanic"...

Re: 1998 Ford Ranger

Blown head gasket or cracked head, most likely.

Sorry dude.

Re: Mag light mount

Almost the same place that I have mine, except I mounted it lower and put the lens portion down. Helps to keep it secure if I'm hitting it hard on rough ground.

Re: Bad gasmileage

When it's not OMG! cold, I average 20 mpg on an '89 BII w/ 5" of lift and 29" tires, and gotten as good as 24...and she has over 325,000 miles on her.
I use synthetic lubes, and make sure she's...

Re: Bad gasmileage

The K&N can definitley cause problems with the MAF sensor. The oil from the filter will foul the sensor, and that's only one reason that they are bad for a street engine.

Clean the MAF with a...

Re: Burning too much gas and no check engine light. HELP!!

You also need to make sure you gap the plugs properly.
They do not come pre-gapped in the box, and the wrong gap will have a significant impact on mileage and performance.

Re: creaking when i turn my steering wheel

Its pretty ridiculous trying to diagnose a sound that you can't hear, so anything that someone on this forum tells you is nothing but a guess, and more importantly a waste of time for you and theirs,...

Re: Bad gasmileage

If temps in MN have been as cold as it has been here in Indiana, then its not surprising that the truck has been getting worse mileage than normal.
Mine certainly has.
At the same time, if the...

The ones I looked at had at least a dozen wires connected to it.
Must have been different.

Re: Explorer Seats

I almost picked up exactly the same seats for my '98, but didn't because of the wiring.

What did you do to add the electrical?

Looks good. Thanks for the pics. Sorry I missed the party, but work came around, and since it's kind of scarce these days, I had to jump on it.

Re: Transmission Fluid?

Deerman, I wouldn't use Lucas in my vehicle, especially in a gear box.
Go to bobistheoilguy, and take some time to familiarize yourself with the information that they have available.
I know that...
