Is it possible that you have something running down your battery at night... something like a light, amp, etc... Sounds like the battery gets a drain, then once you are up and going the alternator...

I don't know about the smaller motor, but the 4.0 is notorious for the crank shaft pulley separating from the rubber center. You really want to check it out because as it separates, you run a risk...

You know, you could just wire in some diodes like RV towing does to the towing vehicle's factory tail lights. Cost you about $30 for the kit.
