Re: Salvaged trans.. what to check?

Update, I still couldn't get it into gear. Seemed like it was stuck in second or something. I pulled the shifter out and the right fork was out of alignment. I put it back into alignment with a...

Re: Salvaged trans.. what to check?

Thanks. Sounds like I'm going to need to try to shift it through the gears. I was having trouble finding gear with it. I'll check it out.

Salvaged trans.. what to check?

So I have a 5sp m5od-r1 trans from a ranger I picked up at a salvage yard. Has 91,000 miles on it. My previous trans grenaded.

I'm perfectly capable of swapping this in myself and probably will by...

Re: m50d-r1 finally kicked the bucket

I got the trans out. Opened it up.. Can't immediately tell what is wrong, but there's definitely a syncro locked up on one of the front gears. Third I think? I can't slide the shift collar down...

Re: 97 ford ranger 4x4 loud noise drivers side front wheel

Do the 97s have vacuum hubs?

I guess it's worth checking if your front shafts spin while in 2wd.. That would help determine if the front diff could be at fault.

Re: m50d-r1 finally kicked the bucket

Yeah.. I'm figuring this as well.

Actually, with the amount of metal shavings I've had come out on that drain plug, I'd probably be better off replacing all bearings, if I decide to do a rebuild...

Re: m50d-r1 finally kicked the bucket

Yeah this is sounding likely. Maybe the main shaft is seized up.

I know one of the main shaft bearings was going bad as it was, as evident by the whirling sound in all forward gears besides 4th...

Re: 97 ford ranger 4x4 loud noise drivers side front wheel

I know you said you checked the brakes but it definitely sounds like brakes.

Other thought would be wheel bearing, but if stepping on the brakes stops the noise, then I'd check there. Slide pins,...

Re: m50d-r1 finally kicked the bucket

I got it back in the garage after a tow.. Pulled the console out and the shift lever out.. lots of oil around the top plate and around the top of the trans. shouldn't be rail plugs because I...

m50d-r1 finally kicked the bucket

Was just driving to work, and lost all ability to shift gears. Seems like it was stuck in 3rd or 4th.

It's a '98 XLT 4x4 3.0 v6 with ~ 175k on the odo.

I did a bunch of work to the engine last...

Re: Another mystery Ranger sound from front end..!

Yeah I hear ya :(

I'm not sure how to explain it any better.

It's definitely not a noise that a vehicle should make. It has me a little concerned, but at the same time, I haven't seen any...

Re: Another mystery Ranger sound from front end..!

The end links are plenty tight. I'm gone back and tightened them more twice.

I'm not certain what an idler arm is. Don't think XLT has those?

It's a torsion bar...

Re: Another mystery Ranger sound from front end..!

Control arms are brand new, with new ball joints pre-installed. All seems to be tight and in spec there.

Another mystery Ranger sound from front end..!

I've been driving with this sound for several months now, but it's beginning to bother me.. I've searched nearly every thread on this forum and can't find anything that describes the behavior...

Re: Putting on new steering wheel leather

I did the same thing to mine this past winter, the same product even (lemonbest).

I get a lot of compliments on it. Feels great to the touch. One of the best things I've done to my truck and it...

Re: After searching and searching ... I've found my Ranger

Was probably the front timing cover gasket leaking. I did that fix on my vulcan and it was a funnnnn experience. :o They will all do it eventually. But definitely not something you want to deal...

Re: Suspension reassembly - when to tighten T-Bars?

Thanks.

I believe they're indexed properly, I used the old LCAs and t-bars as a guide. They are still rust fused together. Only an A-bomb could separate them. :s:

I'll make sure the keys are...

Re: Suspension reassembly - when to tighten T-Bars?

Correct, torsion bars are hanging freely also. Even with the adjustment plate and bolt in place, there isn't enough tension to keep the tbars balanced on the adjuster. They slide off and are just...

Suspension reassembly - when to tighten T-Bars?

I'm nearing the end of a full overhaul of the front suspension on my '98 Ranger 3.0 4x4.

It was a complete strip down. New UCAs, LCAs, T-Bars, hubs, tie rods, sway bar endlinks, axles, shocks.

Re: 3.0 A/C Hose Bracket

Same problem, just got my Ranger back together, I mangled the hell out of that bracket. I put everything back together without it.. That AC line is pretty rigid so it's not in danger of dragging on...

Re: Front crank seal leak 3.0

pulling the radiator will give yourself more clearance to get an impact gun on the main pulley bolts. Otherwise, you could leave it in place. All depends on how much you want to fight with it.

Re: Head gasket replacement 3.0L

I didn't disconnect anything except some of the electrical harness to the a/c and p/s. The solid lines don't flex much but it should be enough to move it forward and down toward the drivers side...
