Ok. Could there be something on the back half of the engine that can leak coolant? I think there is also coolant residue in the "what I will call valley" where the spark plug wires are.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'd be inclined with saying it is the gauge. The thermostat works because the scan guage is saying 180 degrees and not higher.

I'm not sure what the optimal temp is, but I would think either 180-190. I would say drain and replace the coolant and replace the thermostat. Or maybe the temperature sending unit is bad? Hopefully...
