Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?

The forum is dying because there are no new Rangers to talk about... as yet.

BTW... Just over 26,000 on a 1997 XLT. Would say almost all original, though I've made a couple modifications with an...

Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?

Ok, picked mine up in '15 with 19K on it. It's now early '18 and it's only got about 26K on it. Until recently I haven't been driving it in winter because it's a southern truck now trying to survive...

Re: Ford Ranger Returning in 2019

Times change. Still don't like the apparent size of the new, upcoming Ranger but the wife and I have started talking about buying some form of camping trailer... i.e. pop-up style either canvas or...

Re: Power gains

I'm kind of in the same mind with my '97 dual-ignition model. Did the K&N and synthetic oil but I also had to take into consideration that despite being 18 years old when I picked it up, it only had...

Re: Trip computer with tachometer

Thanks for the info. Will see if I can find one locally.

(Not receiving notices when people reply to my threads and don't come into the forums as often as I should.)

Re: Convert AC to electric compressor

Hmmm... Interesting thoughts here. Yes, the AC very definitely drags the horses down on a 2.3 because when I'm not running it (or when the air cools down from 90°+ outside) that little engine will...

Trip computer with tachometer

Has anyone installed a trip computer to their Ranger based on OBD-2 with a tachometer display?

If so, what unit and how accurate/quick is it?

My '97 is one of those 5-speeds minus tach but...

Question Convert AC to electric compressor

Has anybody looked into replacing the belt-driven AC compressor with an electric or perhaps putting an electric drive motor on it in place of routing the serpentine belt over it?

My '97 has the...

Re: No Tach

I want to go beyond the original question.

I, too, have a 5-speed with no tach; a '97 with the 2.3L dual-ignition engine. However, I don't want to go to the extent of swapping out the instrument...

Re: So who's planning to trade when the new Rangers arrive?

Doubtful I would trade for a new Ranger unless it was significantly smaller than the current GM twins. It seems everyone things old-school full sized is today's mid-sized truck. While I could accept...

Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?

I've now driven my '97 Ranger for over a year and I've put just shy of 4,000 miles on it; the odometer reading 23,6xx. What I will say is that despite the low mileage, the 2.3L dual ignition system...

Re: Hows your GAS MILEAGE on ur truck? Let me know here.

As some of you know, I just 'inherited' my '97 Ranger about a month ago. On the drive home--roughly 750 miles--I managed 24mpg average running about 70mph on I-81 northward through the Appalachian...

Question 2.3l idle speed adjustments

Having just picked up my '97 XLT with the 2.3L engine, it has revealed an interesting issue that I expect is normal but would like to correct.

With the AC running, the vents blow almost frigidly...

Re: Hows your GAS MILEAGE on ur truck? Let me know here.

Averaged 24mpg from Tennessee to Maryland on I-75/40/81/70/95 over just about 700 miles without tune-up on a 2.3L that had been sitting mostly idle for almost 11 years. Nor was I babying her--she was...

Re: Dome light not turning off

Just gave it a shot in both doors. Didn't know there was a 25-second timer on the driver's door, but not part of the problem as it drained the battery last week the first time I drove it. Lubed both...

Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?

If you look into my intro page (I am a new member here after all) I just inherited that truck from my deceased step-father. Since I personally knew him and how he drove that truck, I can attest that...

Re: Dome light not turning off

I've got a '97 XLT with the same problem and I have already checked the dimmer switch. For me, it's strictly the dome light and not the bed lights, so I'm certain it's the door switch, but to be...

Re: Air conditioner slightly cool (1996)

This one sounds like a condenser issue or the lines are freezing up, not allowing the coolant to vaporize properly. Pop the hood when you start blowing hot and see if any lines are iced over. You...

Amazingly clean for its age. Then again, it sat in a garage for most of its life.

Re: Inheriting a Ranger

Ok, spent a few bucks (kilobucks) to get some obvious (and one not-so-obvious) issues fixed and drove an 800-mile break-in run in it. For mostly sitting the last 11 years, here were the issues:

*...

Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?

With just over $3,000 in repairs after effectively sitting for the last 11 years, the '97 made a smooth run from Tennessee to Maryland--700 miles--very smoothly. Repairs were for AC, rear shocks and...

Question Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?

Lucky. In my case, it was use it or lose it. Clutch slips when they warm up. I'm taking it in for inspection and want to know if it's hydraulic or the plates themselves
