Overhead 2 bulb vs 3 bulb lights
My 97 --3 bulb overhead--fixture is broken. I have a 98 2 bulb fixture. They appear to mount identically other than needing to cut off a plastic 'foot' on the 98.
Anyone know if this will work...

According to TRS 5r55E started in 1997, but 4r's were also still available? Mine is a code D, so 5r.
Thanks.

auto trans. VSS vs. ABS
My 4.0l '97 Ranger transmission (5r55e)is exhausted--metal shavings flushed from the cooler.
I'd like to put my 2000 Explorer parts car transmission (5R55e) in it. Unfortunately the VSS in the...

Re: Broken ex. manifold / downpipe bolts
I do have a couple of left handed drill bits. Though sometimes it's not easy to drill out broken off bolts, leaving good threads in the casting. ;)
Anyone ever drilled them out and not worried...

Broken ex. manifold / downpipe bolts
The Y-pipe is finally out! O/A torch got the muffler bolts/nuts out ok, but even with that, I broke 3 of the downpipe to ex. man. bolts.
With the transmission out of the way, there will be a bit...

Re: Removing tranny from seized engine
FINALLY realized the squirting ATF was the solution soaking the L rear cylinder! It just ended up on the floor near the starter opening. Duh.......:o
Thanks again.

Re: Removing tranny from seized engine
Success! I ended up dropping the pan in order to remove the rod caps. I then used a brass punch to tap the rod bolts upwards, moving the pistons up slightly. 4 pistons moved fairly easily but 2...

Re: Removing tranny from seized engine
I've had 50/50 atf/acetone in the cylinders for a couple days now. There is no 'wiggling' back and forth. It doesn't move even a fraction.
You're probably right about buying another TC but my...

Re: Removing tranny from seized engine
"Get creative" sounds like hope, but so far no one says it is possible. Was afraid of that. :(
Not hydrolocked--all plugs are out. So far have broken a 3/8 drive Snap-On socket on the harmonic...

Removing tranny from seized engine
I'm trying to remove the auto transmission from 2000 4.0l Explorer, to put it into a 98 4.0l Ranger. All was going great until I found the Explorer engine is seized dead solid. I knew it had a...

97 4L with 179k and gray transmission fluid, and slipping, that I asked about a couple of months ago. Changed the filter and the fluid in the pan, back then. Found lots of silver sludge in pan.

Re: Transmission fluid is gray
As I read it, I 'should' have a 4R44E and a 5R55E. Are they not interchangeable? Thanks.

I just bought a 97 automatic with a 4 L engine and 179k miles. I knew it had trans. problems but didn't know exactly what.
Generally it drives and shifts ok (though maybe takes a bit too long...
