It would be pretty easy to set threaded rod coming out vertically from the tops of the stakes, then have a couple of cross pieces that you could drop on and wing-nut...

..its not really about liking the original so much, its just that if I can get a decent sound from it, I'd rather spend my kick around money on other toys.

if the output side of the switch reads 12 to ground and the bulb socket doesn't, then the problem is in the middle of those two bits.
