might be a long shot but I had one that did what you are talking about and come to find out the lines in the take had got a whole in it and that's what was causing increase in rpm and then the rough...

no fuel from the fuel pump
I have a 1988 ford ranger with a 2.9 liter and one day I had it started and then it died would not start again, so I check fuel pressure and it was none, so I replaced both fuel pumps and the fuel...

I have checked interia switch and its good only one place to check for fuel pressure and it on the fuel rail and when I put power to the fuel pump the pressure is 40 and still will not start,...
