Re: New 2010 looking to bulletproof

Biggest issue with 4.0 is fuel economy. Expect it to drink about as much as the Super Duty.

Usually they run with minor maintenance only until the timing chains go at anywhere between 250k-400k...

Re: I have to re-start my Ranger on the HIGHWAY!

If you can do it without too much effort, I would recommend plugging the vacuum leak and taking a good test drive to see if it solves the stalling issue. Then worry about the line later on.

Re: Missing center hub

Chrome center cap? Post a pic of one of the ones you have. I have a new one still in the package in my '09, got it back from the body shop last week and he knew I would be changing to winter tires...

Re: Any thoughts on Rangers vs Nissan D21 (Hardbody)

Big question: Where are you located?

I'm a GM guy, but I bought the Ranger because it was the only small sold here within 5 years of me buying it. If you live in a place where rust isn't an issue,...

Re: biggest battery for 2000 ranger 4cyl?

I sell, maintain and test a lot of storage batteries in my day job. Not car batteries, but here's some info that may be of value to you (and others in this topic):

- There are A LOT of different...

Re: Adding a tow package. Too many options. Help me please.

Let's get some better info here:

-Figure out what your truck is rated to tow (as in, weight)

-Figure out what the load you want to tow weighs - this includes the weight of the trailer itself...

Re: V8 swapped ranger smashed!

This is one of the reasons I've always been hesitant to put a decent amount of money into customizing/upgrading a vehicle- no matter how good a driver you are, it only takes one screw-up to total it...

Re: Air Horn Placement

You don't want rain/snow/bugs/etc. in your air horns.

Also, they don't look as good roof mounted as they might in your imagination.

There should be room between the rad and the grill/front...

Re: Question about truck beds.

7 foot beds are rare but do exist - your frame isn't long enough to fit one so make sure you get a 6 footer.

If you are swapping the whole bed, including tailgate and brake/turn/reverse lights,...

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread IV

Tuesday: Battery light came on while driving. Decided to try to finish my trip around town. Engine died out roughly as far away from home as can be. Called tow truck. They sent a flatbed for some...

Re: Why are 4.0s such gas hogs?

Ancient design. The 4.0L in these trucks is the descendent of a 2.0L V4 produced in Europe in the 1960s. It's had cylinders added, displacement increased and at some point an overly complex SOHC...

Re: What do you use to keep your truck smelling good?

Fresh air and a vacuum. Adding artificial scent just creates another layer of stink.

Re: save on windshield cleaner

Most ammonia-based glass cleaners are similar in effectiveness.

That said, Rain-X is an amazing product. Not their glass cleaner but the actual Rain-X that you put on after cleaning the glass....

Re: Weatherproofing tailgates?

When I bought mine (used) it came with a not-great weather sealing on the tailgate from the old owner. I'm guessing the only way to get it 100% (or even anywhere close) would be to craft your own...

They call that a valence. Whether it's required or not probably depends on where you live.

Re: Recommend a tonneau style

If you need the bed to be uncovered most of the time,

Hard trifold with the drive-in-the-up-position feature is your best option, but costs a lot of money. Also you won't be able to see out the...

Re: School me on the Ranger please.

Tacoma is literally twice the price and not in the same class (compact vs. mid-size).

Re: School me on the Ranger please.

1) Solid and reliable

Meets my needs. It's not a Super Duty but if you're not hauling massive amounts of heavy stuff it'll serve you fine. Payload is in the 1400 lb range I believe.

2) 4x4

Re: Found leaky wheel bearing seal while working on rear drum brakes.

I had the same issue on my '09. Dad said "We don't have the tools, take it to the shop"

$250 CDN later I had both sides done, new fluid and no issues.

So I'd recommend just having a shop do it.

Re: What do you think it will be like and would you buy it?

I want a small truck with great fuel economy and at least a 6 foot bed. That's why I drive what I do, but no one sells them anymore and by the time mine is worn out there won't be any serviceable...

Re: Towing Capabilities

Trailer brakes are a requirement at that weight, both from a practical and a legal perspective.

You'll probably want some form of sway control. There's multiple types out there - if you're...

Re: I'm surprised at how quiet the 3.0 is at highway speeds

The 5 speed auto became available in '97. 20 years later, idiots are still posting "5 speed" in classified ads, as if that tells us whether it's a manual or an auto.

More on topic, I think...

Re: Buying this 2002 Ranger for my son - input requested!

Timing chain probably won't be an issue for another 150k miles, at which point having it done will be more than the truck's worth.

4.0L is a gas pig.

On the other hand, if you thought GM's 4.3...

Re: Another light bar question, are they worth it?

A 20 fits really nice down there. I thought of doing it myself, but I rarely drive at night and when I do it's 95% city so there's really no point for me. Therefore I don't know what the result would...
