Re: 98 ranger 2002 explorer

Anything is possible with loads of cash and time. This is one that would be high on the cost and difficulty scale.
The most common V8 upgrade is using the 5.0L engine from a mid '90s Explorer.

Re: 4.0 SOHC cassette out of alignment

The cassette looks like it's broken and needs to be replaced.

Re: 4.0 OHV Swap

Long block just means the engine stripped of all externals and just having the block with internals and the heads installed. Short block denotes same condition but without heads. There is no...

Re: 99 ford ranger 3.0 4x4 automatic wont crank just clicks.

Having the trans in park (or any other gear) should allow the engine to turn. There is no mechanical connection between the engine and drive train on an automatic transmission truck.
It sounds like...

Re: 2008 Ranger 3.0 PO302 idle misfire only

The next step is to do a compression test and leak down test. These should pinpoint a valve issue or point to something else.

Re: 4.0 sounds like a diesel with none of the power you would expect from one

Huge blowby and misfire could indicate a hole in the piston. It will be interesting to see what kind of compression results you get. The diesel sound you have could be rod knock or piston slap.

I gotta know, do you always use a pickaxe to remove your tranny? :)

Re: 2.3 exhaust manifold

I would think you could take it to an exhaust shop and have the bad section cut out and a new piece put in.

Re: Gear ratio 3.73 or 4.10

Block front wheels, put trans in neutral, jack 1 tire off the ground in the rear, mark a line on the driveshaft and tire, rotate tire 1 time, count driveshaft rotations, divide by 2, this should be...

Re: Manual transfer case conversion

Since your truck is working good as it is, it seems like the best thing to do is buy a GPS speedometer and mount it in front of your non-working speedo. You should be able to pick one up for less...

Re: K&N Cold Air Intake

Most of the pictures here look like they replaced the factory CAI with an aftermarket HAI. Pulling the air box out to suck up under hood air is not considered adding CAI to your truck.

Re: pump up the 3.0 hamster?

From the picture the combustion chamber looks smaller on the non-flex heads and it will increase the compression ratio not decrease it.

Re: 2003 Ford Ranger Edge 4.0L V6 Misfire

The problem is when the valve opens the pool of gas gets sucked into the cylinder. Extra gas from a bad injector is going to get sucked into the engine at some point.

Re: '90 2.9 leaking gas onto driver exhaust manifold

Sounds like it. It sits on the back drivers side of the fuel manifold, 2 fuel lines and a vacuum hose going to it.
Fuel leaking on exhaust manifold is bad.

Re: 5 speed transmission acting up

Sounds to me like your 1st gear syncro is out, or the shift fork is messed up. My first guess would be the syncro, my truck is very high mileage and hard to shift into 1st after sitting in neutral.

Re: Bank 1 Bank 2 lean code

Wow, almost 2 million miles I'm impressed.

Lean codes are an indication there is more air coming in then the computer sensors can account for. This could be a vacuum leak, bad MAF,...

Re: 2.9 ranger barely runs

Re: Rough idle then engine seized

That sounds pretty sketchy. I would think you would hear bad things before the engine seized. Since the last thing they did was fuel related I would pull all the spark plugs and see if the engine...

Re: 2000 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6 - XLT - 98,xxx

If this year has an MAF sensor in the intake clean it first. That's what causes the lean codes on my Expy.
