So after almost a year of looking, I found one of these...

I didn't know what the hell it's called, and the ones I could find didn't fit. The one I found fits but it doesn't have the thermo valve or pre-heater hose or hose port, I should still be ok, right?...

loose wire

I have this white with a red stripe wire under my hood that's not hooked up to anything, I'm thinking it's either for my temp gauge or for the low oil light. Google Images is fucking worthless.

Hmm. I'm pretty sure my 87 2.3 is burning oil, but I'm not seeing any blue smoke, at least not from inside the truck, but I smell it, most often when decelerating.

Re: A 1986 ford ranger

I'd talk him down to $500. Remember, if you're gonna put a 4.0 in, you WILL need the beefier 4.0 trans, a 4.0 will eat that 2.9 trans for dinner!

Personally, I'd go for the 2.5 Lima. Yeah, the 8 plugs are a pain, but a thermostat for a Lima is $10 MAX, one for a Duratec is about $150 because it's integrated into the water outlet.

Nah, all years were the same. 2001 was a transition year, some will have the 2.5 Lima, some will have the 2.3 Duratec.

The project 1985 Cougar I had for a few months

I got it the end of July last year, got rid of it the end of January this year.

That 5.0 albeit a CFI, was smooth as silk. Yes, those are the Thunderbird 14" "Phone Dials" I LOVED them!!

Re: I'll be damned

My shroud is also missing, do I REALLY need one? Vehicles with a/c had the full shroud, ones w/out had a quarter shroud, my 96 had no a/c so it had the 1/4th shroud.

Re: I'll be damned

It did seem to be cooler while it sits idling than when I'm driving it. It also didn't seem like it was sucking the life out of the engine when it was on. I'd like to think the 5 speed manual helps!
