'96 Ranger wreck repair
My parents bought me a used '96 Ford Ranger a few months after my eighteenth bithday. I had only drivin it for a few months when a friend and I were going back to his house for the night, and I came upon a curve way too fast for it. I hit my brakes to try to slow down but we went off the road over a 40 foot (at least) bank and hit about a 8-10 inch tree that rolled the truck after impact. Ford Rangers are so light that, after he and I had gotten out the truck and checked for any injuries, we got on the drivers side (me at the doors with window rolled down to hold and he at the bed of the truck) and picked the truck up on its side; rested for a few seconds; then pushed it over upright. The truck was upside down for less than 10 minutes. We towed the truck back to his place and let it rest for the night. The next morning we went out to check for damage. The front bumper was in a "V" pattern about one foot into the truck and each side sticking out about 8 inches or so. The radiator had a hole in it where the fan had been pushed into it. The grill and front left signal light were all busted up. The hood had a place that had been pushed back 3 or 4 inches. The front left finnder was banged up beyond repair and above the drivers door was some bad body damage. As far as mechanicle damage I could not find much besides oil in the cylinders from being upside down which resulted in fouled plugs, my timing belt was knocked off time, and, of course, the radiator. I have been working on it a while and with this being the first real mechanics I have ever done in my life I went online to find info and hopefully people to help with this specific make and model truck. I found you :-) Anyway, I have since taken everything apartdown to the timing belt, bought new plugs, a new power steering pulley (I broke trying to get off without a pulley puller I did not even know existed), flipped the fuel shut off switch back on, checked to make sure my coil packs were good by using a voltimeter, and put the timing marks where they should be. (remind me to recharge my A/c regularly Plz so I do not forget to do so before I run it too much). Now I am only getting around 30lbs of pressure on ALL Four cylinders, I am getting fuel and a flame shoots out the plug hole when I take one of the number 1 plugs out and leave the other in it. It will fire when the plug is out but not with the plug in, basicly, it will not fire under compression. A friend told me that this could be caused by having the time 180'd (marks on right but on wrong stroke). Which makes a little sence and is very possible, but if my valves are closed on the exaust stroke instead of the compression stroke wouldnt I still get plenty of compression on the exaust stroke? Or, is the exaust stroke somehow not as strong as a compression stroke? If so, The only problem I can see causing this is having my timing on the exaust stroke for TDC, unless ALL my valves are busted (which I doubt). What do yall think?
I do not own a camera, but I would love to and DEFINATLY will post pictures if I am able to.
