X2

then you dont have to worry about the top being in a bind because you will have no pressure from the springs

I can't because I have on my hitch. And the hitch is rusted extremely bad so I don't even wanna mess with taking that off.

do you have a hitch? if so remove the bottom bolts and jack the truck up by the hitch. This will pull the leafs off the shackles and then you can remove the shackle.

I can't fully remove the bottom bolt because the hitch is in the way.

when you jack it up by the hitch you should be able to get it out. If you can't get it out you should be able to get the top bolt out. Jack up by the hitch to the point where the shackle starts to get pulled by the weight of the truck. that should relieve all stress on the bolts.

Is this how you did yours?

So will I still have to have a jack on the axle?

Like said before. You need to take the stress off of the shackle (ie in a bind right now) (finding the sweet spot )

You will have jack stands under the axle then the jack under the trailer hitch

I only had the jack on the hitch. I blocked the front wheels both in front and behind the tires and lifted the rear by the hitch only by the hitch. I removed the top bolt first (it required some persuasion) then i pulled on the leafs and and got two wrenches on the bolts and nut and got the bottom bolt off.

Ok. I'm using the stock jack that came with the truck btw. So here's what I'll try tomorrow after work.

Jack the axle up and take off tires.
Lower axle until the frame is on the jack stands.
Use my brothers jack from his truck and jack up the hitch.

Sound good?
