Bitzy it would take maybe 3-4 hours to replace the head gaskets. You may have to have the heads resurfaced, that would be maybe $150.
The gaskets themselves may run you another $100.
I cant remember how much my whole gasket kit was.

If you have a shop do it, you will get raped in the labor costs just for time.

I will definitely consider rangers for my next vehicle, however I might sell all he accessories for a clean start.
yea I'd get rid of that money pit. Not worth pumping more in it

Every vehicle is a potential money pit. Even if he goes ans buys a new used one that one could have issues.

So he has put alot of money into it...lets say he's sunk money into new fuel injectors, at least now he knows they are new. If he goes and gets another used vehicle, chances are soon he may have to replace the injectors in it too.
Same goes for brakes, shocks, engine parts like IAC, TPS, etc.

And as far as scratches goes...well ive seen his pics of him mudding and offroading...trucks that get used like that are going to have scratches. Hell even my nice red one has its share of scratches.

Yeah, but if past maintenance is questionable, and you're already putting thousands of dollars into a truck that seems to break every time you fix it it might be a better idea to try and find a newer truck that has been better maintained.

there comes a point and time where it doesn't make fiscal sense to put a lot of money in a vehicle..say his truck is only worth 2500 bucks and it needs 2 grand worth of work.

Time to get rid of it

If I were you, I would figure out what the truck is worth as-is with the headgasket issue and with it fixed. If it cost you 1500 to fix it and it makes the truck value increase 2500, Id fix it then sell it.

at some point you need to draw the line on where to stop dumping money.

Yeah I'd upgrade to a better ranger with less miles at this point. Just makes you wonder what could go out next

I am not capable of fixing the head gasket myself, even with my uncles help I dont think we could do it. I also dont think that a head gasket going out for a truck with less than 130k miles is considered regular maintenance.

As for the scratches, I have not added any with my off roading adventures. It just came with a ton of scratches when I bought it. I just overlooked them because I was excited for my first vehicle.
