Nope, but I've pulled ranger motors multiple times, takes me about 3-4 hours by myself. I'm leaving the fan off and the intake and exhaust manifolds off of the v8 when i put it in so it goes faster. If all goes well i could have most of it done in one day. but its most likely gonna take two or three.

Re: 5.0 Swap MD50R2 and BW4406
Found an awesome website to help with some of the wiring have a few of my own changes i'm gonna do- namely the big yellow alternator wire that comes from the big engine plug. But this website gave me a little more insight on what i actually need to do. I am gonna make a hybrid charging harness combined of the one out of the explorer and the one out of the ranger.

Re: 5.0 Swap MD50R2 and BW4406
Took me 3 1/2 hours this morning to get everything pulled. Now for the fun part of doing the wiring, i was looking at the new starter compared to the one that was on the 4.0 manual tranny and they look to be the exact same size i've got to look a little closer and see if it'll bolt up and reach the flywheel properly- chances are it won't but perhaps i can make a hybrid of the two because on the 4.0 starting harness the starting relay is on the starter, the 5.0 has it up in the fender by the fuse box........ anyone have any insight on this?

Re: 5.0 Swap MD50R2 and BW4406
took the starting/charging harness's apart, they are quite different on the two engines, but it actually pretty easy once you see everything physically vs staring at wiring diagrams, and the two starters are exactly opposite of one another- identical but since the ranger starter goes on the drivers side and the explorer goes on the passenger side the lobes are opposite one another.

So got the 5.0 bolted in today, still allot of work to do buttoning it up. Bolted the transmission up, mounted the transfer case- damn that 4406 barely fits in there. Had to move the electrical plug that comes out of the bottom of the cab up into the cab further. And the rear drive shaft i took from the f-350 fits perfectly with that adapter from napa, no trimming, no squeezing- perfect fit in an extended cab. Front drive shaft from the f150 fits awesome too. My buddies are calling this Frankenstein Truck. Haha.

Not too sure on the diameter, its smaller than the one out of the ranger but heavier even thought its shorter. must have allot thicker walls. I'll measure it when i get a chance. Length and diameter.
Have a question, can't seem to find answers anywhere: I only have a plugin for one upstream O2 sensor- on the drivers side. Did the 97 Explorer/Mountineer only have one upstream? usually there are two plugins right on the engine wiring harnass- this one only has one.
Got just about everything done, have to jump the wires on the harness for the auto tranny so i can start this thing- tan/red to pink. Have to finish up my exhaust and put my spark plug wires on. Hardest thing is the exhaust. Doing a big write up on my computer at home including pictures of everything, wiring and info, i'll put it on here as well as a video of what it sounds like- gonna be pretty loud i'm thinking.

Wow I thought it would be huge.
I have no idea about your question. Sorry.
Ill be sure to follow your write up when/if I do a 5.0 swap! You seem to know your stuff.

Re: 5.0 Swap MD50R2 and BW4406
Yea most of the technical i've learned in the last few months on here and other forums. I've benefitted so much from the forums i figured this is a good way to "pay" for the advice i've gotten- pass it on!
