Default Drag truck build. (caution Chevy content)

A little over a year ago, my dad called me up and said his friend found an S-10 rolling chassis, for cheap and wanted to know if I wanted to go half with him on building a toy to take to the strip, and maybe cruise the streets. I told him sure that would be cool. His friend has been building and racing cars and trucks for almost 60 years so he was more than willing to guide us through the process. With his help we slowly started building this truck. We bought a stock small block 350, tore it down, had it machined and balanced and built it back up. Installed a Lunati 284/292 duration cam, had the cast iron heads machined and 2.02 valves installed.
Slapped on a pro comp dual plane manifold, an Edelbrock 750 carb, (we tried a Holly 750, but we just could not get it tuned right.) Put on some headman shorty headers that are made specifically to fit in an S-10. And changed the ignition coil out to an MSD unit. For a trans. we installed a race built turbo 350, with a 2000 rpm stall converter, and a B&M Z gate floor shifter. It took a while to get it tuned right and to get all the initial bugs worked out, but It seams like it finally ready to make a few passes at the strip for final tuning. Ive got a set of Slicks for the back and will shortly be replacing the front tires. My dad's friend is pretty confident that it will run somewhere in the 12's. I'm not sure if it will, but he has been building and racing his whole life, so maybe he's right. It's not much of looker, but it sure does sound mean. Anyway on to the pics.

Just the stock S-10 rear end think its a 10 bolt, but it is limited slip. Once it breaks Im gonna put in an explorer 8.8 and lock it up. Everyone says I need a 9 inch, but imho the 8.8 should be plenty strong and are still pretty cheap and easy to find.

haha yea that 10 bolt wont last long. an 8.8 might not hold up to that kinda power where a 9in would be better. considered a 12b? thats a pretty common muscle car rear end as well, a 14b would probably be overkill.

idk I think the 8.8 would be just as good as the 9. The explores have the heavier spline axles, and the demensions would be pretty close to so less fab work would be needed to mount. Everyone likes the 9 inch so much cause you can swap out the whole pumpkin in a matter of min. but I honestly don't see the need for that in my situation. The 12 and 14 bolts would take a lot of cutting down to fit.

good point.

plus the 9in is all one housing so you wont be separating tubes from a cast diff like on an 8.8.
