Ranger101's Stang Log
I might as well make a project thread for this turd. The car is a 1988 Mustang LX Hatch. Mods when I got it were:
Lowered
saleen wing
308
10:1 compression
Trick flow stage 3 cam
Ported and polished gt 40 heads and upper and lower intake
24 lb injectors with matching maf sensor
Cold air intake
Taylor made 10.4mm wires
Msd 6a ignition box
Flex fan
No ac
Offroad h pipe with flowmaster 40 series
Bbk equal length headers
Short throw shifter
Adjustable clutch cable
King cobra clutch
3:73 gears in rear
Sub frame connectors
Rear sway bar
5"monster tach
And oil pressure guage, temp guage and amp guage in center of councel
New radiator
New speed sensor
New fuel pump
New fuel guage
New fuel pressure regulator
New spark plugs
New battery
Problems:
speedometer doesnt work but i do have the cable to fix it and will go with the car
doors do not lock
primed in color
And it looked like this:
After driving it for a few days, I hated the way it rode so I started looking for springs. I found a set of Rousch Racing springs for $120 BNIB locally so I scooped them up:
And I really hated that damn Saleen wing so I found a guy selling a stock hood and LX wing for $50 so i scooped those up the same day I bought the springs. LX wing installed:
When I got the car the rear tires were BALD so I went ahead and ordered some new rubbers for the rear. Shortly after ordering two rear tires I noticed that the inside edge of the front tires was worn down to the cords. Shortly after noticing this, I ordered front tires.
Shot of the new rear tires(245/55/16's):
There's not much else going on with it right now. I'm hoping to have the new tires on in the next couple of days and get it inspected so it's street legal. Other than that, I'm just looking for an LX front bumper and everything I need to do the 5 lug conversion. By spring I plan on having it converted to 5 lug and having these:
http://www.americanmuscle.com/blackc...9904-stag.html
As far as paint goes, I think I'm just going to spray paint it flat black to make it look a little better. The interior is pretty damn clean for a 23 year old car so there won't be much changed there yet. Let me know what you guys think. Maybe throw some ideas at me on things I should do?

Re: Ranger101's Stang Log
I guess if your thinking of shaker can paint, those pockets aren't too deep.
Find a friend with a gun and go mix some paint in your fav color!
Do a good teardown and tape job and you'll be rewarded with a vehicle you won't mind putting your hard earned cash towards fixin up.
If you don't do it right, you'll just get flustrated and disallusioned...just my 2 cents.
OH, I am kinda partial to Grabber Orange, which by the way, was a option on the Ranger!!!

Re: Ranger101's Stang Log
Very nice! And I'm only spray painting it to get me by for a while. I'll be dropping ~$1,500 to do 5 lug conversion and for the new wheels and tires. Won't have much money left for paint for a while.

Re: Ranger101's Stang Log
That cars got a lot of potential man. I know a kid who painted his 5.0 notch GO and it turned out excellent, IMO either that or Azure blue would really set any fox off. Also, I think an LX front end would make your car look 10x better than the GT front clip

Re: Ranger101's Stang Log
just to save you some time and money, the guy who owned my brother in law's 92 mustang before him tried to paint it flat black with spray paint an it looks like shit, but if thats what you gotta do, it doesn't look to horrible from like 30 feet away

Re: Ranger101's Stang Log
So I've kind of changed my mind on what I want to do with the car. I'm thinking about just painting my wheels and putting these new tires on then start saving up to get the car painted in the spring. More than likely it'll be painted DSG or something of the sort. I'm still trying to come up with a good color.

Re: Ranger101's Stang Log
Put in my new springs today. It makes the car feel a million times better. And it sits higher and rides smoother. Tomorrow I'm putting on new tires and getting an LX front bumper.

Re: Ranger101's Stang Log
Do it man. The rear takes like 20 minutes to do. The front, maybe will take you an hour or two. I read that the fronts are scary and really dangerous but with the right techniques, its pretty safe. You don't even need a spring compressor to install them.
