Default The evolution of Mo

That's not short for Slo-Mo, it's short for Maureen. Thought I'd do a mods thread and include some other minor things I've already done.

I just installed the poorly-named Daystar 1.5" levelling kit. I didn't get the angle quite right for comparison in the 'After' pic, but I think you can still see that the front end is sitting too high. Looks more like a 2.5" or 3" lift.

Before:

After:

The truck rode like crap after the coil spacer install, so I installed a 3/4 inch pile of washers on the top of each front shock to try and restore the factory ride. It's much better, but still not quite right - I wish I had taken measurements before I did the mod, instead of guessing at shock length.

So one of my next mods will be to lift the rear a bit. I found a guy in Canada that sells imitation Belltech 6400 shackles for $63 shipped. I'm hoping to only have to use the 1" lift holes, and avoid any more messing around with shocks.

Here are some other minor things I've done to personalize my truck. Nothing exciting really, just some filler pics until I start working on my dual-horn setup tomorrow night, and wait for my shackles to arrive.

Mo doesn't really have any balls... except for these 3. Also useful for hooking on a tow strap or preventing light rear-enders from damaging my bumper (while hopefully mangling the crap out of the front grille of the offender's car )

Not expecting any fires in a 1 year old truck, but might come in handy helping someone else...

Some locks to deter punks from causing me any grief:

Velcro strap-on tie-down. Sorry, looking at wrong pic. Velcro strap to keep the middle belt tidy.

Vanity mirrors, kleenex OHC and a bunch of other stuff not pictured...

I love these stick-on mirrors - you can see everything in them. Driving without them is like peeking through a keyhole to see what's beside/behind you.

More updates to come as I begin my dual horn install tomorrow...

Thanks, Edgeman.

Here's my next mod... dual horns.

This is the horn I will be adding. Instead of adding a deep tone, I added another high tone to get a nice piercing sound.

Factory horn is in front of rad and there's just enough room for a 2nd horn beside it.

I didn't want to tamper with the factory wiring, so I decided to tap into the connector.

I folded the bare wires into the female plug, and carefully routed the shielded part of the wires around and out of the plug near the locking clip.

With a bit of fiddling, I got the factory connector to slide on and lock in place with the new wires coming out neatly.

Mounted the horn and tidied up the wires.

Hear the difference...

Finally got around to doing this little mod:

Just used Krylon on a small foam roller to paint the raised lettering. Can't think of anything else to do while I wait for my shackles... any suggestions?!?!?

Thanks guys!

I like the idea of a CB, but I don't think I'd get much use out of it... I don't think they're very popular at all here in Canada.

Where are my shackles?!?! Purolator's tracking is useless - no updates in almost 5 days.

Rear leveling delayed while I wait for my new Belltech shackles to come in.

Click here to see why you shouldn't buy Springtech shackles...

belltech FTW

The belltech bushings are bar-none. They are very nice. I got mine off amazon and paid less then $55 for mine with my discount.

I got my Belltechs a few days ago - they do look really nice. But before i put them in, I have to double-check my front coil springs... I think one of them has gone off-centre. Looks weird.

Then I need to do some crazy driving in an empty parking lot to see if the Advancetrac system is still working OK with the front lifted.

If either of these 2 things are a problem, then the Belltechs will be returned, and I will have to remove the coil spacers and go back to stock

Howd you do the kleenex OHC? That looks like a really cool concept for a fleet truck.

Got the kleenex dispenser from Walmart for a few bucks and covered the bottom with the 'hook' (rough) part of heavy duty velcro. If you push it on firmly and wiggle it around a bit, it will stick to the headliner material.
