Project Gravel Pit
Since buying my 97 Ranger last week, I have been spending most of my free time getting it cleaned up. Which is turning into quite a chore given the fact that the interior was filthy! I have stripped out the seats and the carpet. I spent about $12 on Resolve cleaner and took the carpet to the car wash to blast the dirt out of it so it can be reused for now. The headliner will come out too. I will most likely redo the headliner since that could be done for about $20.00 in materials and a little bit of my time. I was given another set of seats with the truck so hopefully those will fit the truck. The originals are toast. I literally wiped down and scrubbed every square inch of the interior with a scrub brush and even used an old tooth brush to get into the nooks and crannies. I am seeing some things which is causing me to believe my truck was a fleet vehicle earlier in it's life. It still shows the remnants of a couple CB radio type antennas. The ashtray is missing as well and there are some screw holes in the lower dash for a mic clip. It also has almost 300,000 miles on the odometer. My little 4 banger truck runs really well given it's very high mileage and doesn't appear to really burn or leak any oil. The motor seems original and must have been very well cared for. Overall, the body is relatively rust free for a Michigan vehicle. Though it's got a lot of little bumps and bruises here and there. My plans are to fix it up as money allows and see what I can make out of it. It won't be real flashy as it is my daily driver. I'll start by lowering it and also putting some wheels and tires on it. I'm thinking late model Mustang wheels as they are plentiful and look good on these trucks. The wheels I'm looking at using are 17" wheels. Those will fit well and look nice once the truck is lowered. Lastly, I've always thought that it was lame when one of those weekend TV car shows would name whatever project of the week they were working on. That's just me I guess. Well given the amount of dirt I have been cleaning out of the truck, I've decided to jump on the bandwagon and name it "Project Gravel Pit". It looks like it was parked in a gravel pit with the windows left down, so thats what it's name will be. I'll post pic's as work progresses and any input or ideas would be cool too. I've already wire wheeled the drivers side floor and I'll put some POR-15 on it before the carpet goes back in. It's just surface rust.
Thanks, Mitch.

Re: Project Gravel Pit
Reinstalled my freshly cleaned carpet. Came out pretty good considering how nasty it was to begin with. I would like to have bought new replacement carpet for it but it's just not in the budget right now.

Re: Project Gravel Pit
Truck looks good. I'd love to find something like that. Id feel so bad for it. But I would dump so much money into it, it would be ridiculous.
I wish you the best on your project.
